My teaching philosophy rests on the key principle that education is transformative. In my classroom, I strive to create an environment where students are empowered to engage with freedom, critical curiosity, and radical possibility. I believe in mobilizing intersectional and transnational frameworks to illuminate the complexities of race, gender, class, and sexuality within urban and Global South contexts. I encourage students to explore these issues through collaborative inquiry and dialogue. Together, we curate unique learning spaces that foster deep thought and social responsibility. Drawing from my research on Black girlhoods, sexualities, and the enduring impacts of colonialism, I integrate diverse perspectives and empirical evidence to support students' research toolkits. In my teaching, I strive to create an engaging and dynamic learning environment by integrating art, media, film, and technology. This approach not only enriches the educational experience but also bridges course content with students' diverse interests and strengths. Through the use of multimodal educational technologies, the arts, and the exchange of media, I encourage my students to actively participate in and keep up with the the fast-growing digital world. Through incorporating multimedia elements and interactive tools in the classroom, I aim to inspire creativity and critical thinking, while ensuring that learning remains both meaningful and enjoyable.
I participate in and understand inclusion as a powerful tool for collaboration and social change, inter alia, and I value the importance and the transformative power of cultivating and participating in equitable learning communities. Through interactive discussions, experiential learning opportunities, and community engagement projects, I aim to equip students with the analytical tools and ethical frameworks necessary to navigate and transform our increasingly complex world. My aim is to collaboratively foster a classroom atmosphere where students not only acquire knowledge but where they also deepen their commitments to promoting equitable and inclusive social change, as future leaders. Together, we deepen our mutual understanding of critical issues and their implications for contemporary society.
