Virtual Meeting Standards

The Alliance Against Ableism has developed virtual meeting standards that allow equitable participation for people with disabilities without requiring anyone to disclose a need. Following these standards can make your meeting more inclusive.

  • Please enable live transcript and captions!

  • Avoid speaking more quickly than the transcript can keep up with

  • State your name when you speak (e.g., “This is Jeff…”)

  • Turn your camera on when speaking (if possible)

  • If someone has written in the chat, please read aloud

  • Blur your background if possible

  • Mute when not speaking

  • Ask people if they have any access needs for the meeting
