UMA Students: Igniting Talent and Creativity
Manouba University was delighted to honour its students, whose dedication and talent lit up UMA Culture Day. These young, passionate and creative talents demonstrated the full range of their artistic skills in a variety of fields, including singing, music, eco-design, poetry, drawing and theatre performances.
Thanks to their commitment and hard work, the event was a real success, a cultural event where everyone could appreciate the originality and diversity of the performances. Not only did the students showcase their skills, but they also gave the public a chance to reflect deeply on environmental and social issues through their artistic works.
Their vocal, instrumental and visual performances added a unique dimension to the event. They created a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere, captivating the attention of all spectators and arousing strong emotions.
We congratulate all these students for their exceptional energy, passion and creativity. They embody the spirit of Manouba University: a place where ideas, art and culture come together to build a richer, more inclusive and inspiring future for all.

Distinction for researchers from the LBVBGR, RIADI, P3S and LR17ES03 research laboratories at the University of La Manouba: Celebrating academic excellence
Manouba University stands out for the excellence of its academics, recognized for their remarkable contributions in a variety of disciplines. These include researchers specialising in microbiology at the Laboratoire de Biotechnologie et Valorisation des Bio-Géo-Ressources (LBVBGR: ISBST), in Arabised computing, integrated documentation and software engineering at the RIADI laboratory (ENSI), and in medical genetics. Similarly, the work carried out by researchers at the Sports Performance, Health and Society Laboratory (P3S: ISSEP) and the advances made by the Physiopathology, Nutrition and Biomolecules Laboratory (LR17ES03: ISBST) are evidence of the university's significant scientific impact.

Staying on the cutting edge of research with Scopus’ training course
18 November 2024: CNUDST (Elsevier), in collaboration with the University of La Manouba, organized a training course entitled ‘Staying on the cutting edge of research with Scopus’ at the Carthage El Hadatha Amphitheatre. The event aimed at introducing participants the Scopus database, an essential tool for optimizing their academic and professional research.
Delivered by experts from the CNUDST, this certification course attracted a great deal of interest. It was attended not only by researchers and lecturers from La Manouba University, but also by librarians and anyone wishing to improve their documentary research skills.
UMA at the IAU 2024 International Conference in Tokyo
From 22 to 24 November 2024: Manouba University, represented by its President, Prof. Ameur Chérif, took part in the International Conference (IAU) of the International Association of Universities 2024, organised in Tokyo. This high-profile event provided the university with a valuable opportunity to consolidate its relations with international institutions, while promoting its initiatives and innovative projects in the field of higher education.
UMA at the annual conference of the Arab Organization of Research and Education Networks
On December 12-13, 2024, UMA participated in the annual conference of the Arab Research and Education Networks Organisation (ASREN). ASREN’s mission is to integrate the electronic infrastructures of Arab countries into the global network, fostering greater international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
In addition to strengthening digital connectivity, ASREN organizes international forums to explore the impact of quality and accreditation in education. It also works toward developing new educational standards that align with the evolving needs of modern societies.
The ‘GREEN IMPACT’ Project
On December 14, 2024, UMA took part in an Information Day dedicated to the GREEN IMPACT project, organized by the Department of Academic Affairs and Scientific Partnership. This initiative aims to advance scientific research in addressing climate and economic challenges in Tunisia. It also provides opportunities to invest in laboratory work and enhance researchers' skills by integrating their studies into real-world projects.
As part of a broader effort to strengthen the role of higher education institutions, the project seeks to bridge academic research with national economic and social development.

Trail Jugurtha: An Ecological and Cultural Commitment?
On November 16-17, 2024, students from Manouba University participated in the first National Student Ecological and Cultural Marathon, Trail Jugurtha, held in Kalaat Senan. Organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in partnership with UNESCO, the event served as a unique platform for promoting environmental conservation while celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage.
The students’ participation reflected their dedication to ecological and cultural issues, fostering teamwork and solidarity. Bringing together students from various universities, the marathon was a resounding success, underscoring the vital role of education and culture in building a sustainable future.

Iraqi delegation received at UMA
On November 4, 2024, the Université de La Manouba (UMA) welcomed a delegation from the Middle Euphrates Technical University / Diwaniya Technical Institute. The meeting focused on preparations for a joint conference between the two universities, set for October 2025, under the theme "Engineering and Science on a Collaborative Platform to Drive Sustainable Development."
This initiative aims to foster the development of innovative solutions to global challenges, with an emphasis on environmental, economic, and social sustainability. The collaboration presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen academic and scientific ties between the two institutions, contributing to international research on sustainable development.
Indonesian ambassador visits UMA
On November 18, 2024, the President of La Manouba University, Prof. Ameur Chérif, had the honor of welcoming His Excellency Mr. Zuhairi Misrawi, the Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia, along with a delegation of Indonesian representatives and students.
The meeting underscored La Manouba University's role as a hub for cooperation in higher education and scientific research. Discussions centered on opportunities for student and researcher exchanges between the two countries. A draft framework agreement was also reviewed, paving the way for its future signing to further strengthen bilateral academic ties.
Following the meeting, Prof. Ameur Chérif led the Indonesian delegation on a guided tour of the campus, offering them an opportunity to explore the university’s infrastructure and resources.
UMA holds Erasmus+ Days
December 9-10, 2024: The Erasmus+ Days at AMU aimed to introduce the new Erasmus+ 2021-2027 program and highlight the various higher education opportunities available to Tunisia. The event also provided guidance on preparing and implementing Erasmus+ projects.
Key topics covered during the event included:
Overview of Erasmus+ 2021-2027: A detailed presentation of the program’s new features and the opportunities open to Tunisian higher education institutions.
Erasmus+ Calls for Tunisia: A focus on key actions such as International Credit Mobility (ICM), Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM/EMDM), Virtual Exchange, and Jean Monnet initiatives.
Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE): A dedicated session on CBHE calls, covering best practices for submitting a competitive project, budget management (Lump Sum II model), and submission and evaluation procedures.
Engaging New Participants: Identifying potential project leaders and first-time applicants, with personalized coaching and support provided on the second day.
The event served as a valuable platform for expanding Tunisia’s participation in Erasmus+ and strengthening its higher education collaboration with Europe.

Elections of representatives of the administrative and technical staff and workers to the UMA Council
December 2024: The University of La Manouba held elections to appoint representatives of the administrative, technical, and workers' staff to its Council. Following this democratic process, Mr. Chamseddine Gara and Mr. Ibrahim El Arbi were elected as representatives for the administrative and technical staff, and workers, respectively. These newly elected members will work closely with the university administration and the other Council representatives to contribute to decision-making and the overall development of the institution.
Elections of Student Representatives to the UMA Council
December 6, 2024: The elections for student representatives on the Manouba University Council were held in the university's meeting room. This event gave students the opportunity to elect their representatives, who will be responsible for advocating for their interests and working to enhance the quality of teaching and student life.
Candidates from a variety of faculties and disciplines presented their programs and ideas to their peers in a democratic and friendly atmosphere. At the conclusion of the voting process, Jouiden Ghandour was elected to represent the Bachelor's students, and Iyed Zribi was elected to represent the Master's students.

Universitas: Second Issue (December 30, 2024)
First Issue (December 2020): The inaugural issue of Universitas aimed to promote multidisciplinarity by creating spaces for dialogue between faculty members and student researchers across various disciplines at the University of La Manouba. This approach seeks to overcome the fragmentation of knowledge and foster complex thinking, rooted in the principles of multi-, inter-, and trans-disciplinarity, in line with the ideas of Jean Piaget.
Second Issue (December 30, 2024): The second issue of Universitas focuses on the theme ‘Masculine/Feminine’, selected for its relevance and cross-disciplinary nature, as demonstrated in the 7th session of the 2019 International Pluridisciplinary Symposium. This theme delves into the historical and cultural constructions of gender categories and their impact on various facets of society, including law, education, work, politics, media, and biology.
This issue compiles texts from the symposium, offering a multifaceted exploration of gender categories through lenses such as gender studies, feminism, post-colonialism, and other related disciplines. It presents several lines of analysis, including cross-disciplinary studies, symbolic and imaginary exploration, and biological and technological approaches.
Additionally, the journal features a supplement dedicated to a conference on societal changes in the Arab world between 2010 and 2020, reflecting the journal’s ambition to engage with large-scale societal dynamics. The collaborative efforts of the editorial board members and coordinators are also showcased.

We Make our Forests Thrive
November 19, 2024: To mark National Tree Day, the WBU organized an event under the theme “Our Forests Live Thanks to Us... Green Tunisia Thanks to Us.” The initiative aimed to raise awareness within the university community and among younger generations about the importance of environmental preservation and reforestation.
Pupils from Nahj El Baladia Primary School in La Manouba, accompanied by their teachers, actively participated in the event.
The gathering was also attended by several directors of institutions affiliated with the university, faculty members, general secretaries, as well as AMU executives and staff, all of whom demonstrated the university community’s collective commitment to environmental issues.
The day's activities were led by the 3Zero Club from the École Supérieure de Commerce de Tunis (ESCT). Inspired by the vision of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, the club is dedicated to advancing a world with zero net carbon emissions, zero poverty, and zero unemployment.
Inauguration of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development in Africa
November 13, 2024: The AMU inaugurated the UNESCO Chair in Higher Education for Sustainable Development in Africa as part of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs programme. This initiative aims to foster an integrated system of research, teaching, and training while enhancing international cooperation among universities.
Directed by Prof. Jouhaina Gherib, the chair is the fifth in Tunisia since 1997 and the twelfth in North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. Its goal is to promote a unified approach to research, education, and training, while actively involving the university community in sustainable development projects.
The four-year programme of the Chair is designed to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa. It brings together a range of economic, social, and international partners, including the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Banque Nationale Agricole (BNA), the Groupement d'Intérêts Économiques (GIE), and the operator Orange.

November 16, 2024: The LR11ES31 laboratory, affiliated with the Institut Supérieur de Biotechnologie de Sidi Thabet (ISBST), recently organized a seminar to showcase the progress of research conducted by students enrolled in the Master's programme. November 21, 2024: The Sidi Thabet Higher Institute of Biotechnology (ISBST) hosted the PHARMA 4.0 workshop, an exclusive training course focused on the latest technological advances and innovations in the pharmaceutical sector. Tunisian Packaging Awards Ceremony
December 24, 2024: ESSTED students participated in the Tunisian Packaging Grand Prix ceremony, “Tunisia Star Pack 2024.”
The winning projects were the result of a collaboration between ESSTED and SCAPCB, featuring the brand "Le Phare du Cap Bon." A total of 10 ESSTED projects were recognized for their practicality and originality.
ESENet Job Fair - Odyssée Business 4.0
November 27, 2024: UMA hosted one of its flagship events, the ESENet Job Fair, under the theme "L'Odyssée Business 4.0."
The event attracted over 800 participants and featured 15 renowned speakers, offering valuable insights into the evolving business landscape. Additionally, more than 60 students received specialized training in project management, enhancing their professional skills and career prospects.

ESEN HIVE CLUB: Resounding success for Problem Solving's Bee Battle

December 12 & 23, 2024: ESEN held its fourth edition of training sessions under the theme "Business Intelligence Journey."
The first session, led by Ms. Amira Bedhiafi, provided in-depth insights into business intelligence tools and strategies.

This year's forum focused on environmentally friendly technologies, exploring how innovative computing practices can contribute to a more sustainable future.

LIGUE Lab Holds International Conference
From 28 to 30 November 2024, the LIGUE laboratory celebrated its 25th anniversary during the 8th edition of its international conference, which was centered around the theme: "Plural Ecologies: Towards a Transition of Organizations." In parallel with this event, a Pecha Kucha competition, specifically aimed at doctoral students, was organized. Additionally, LIGUE participated in a symposium co-organized by the Université Paris Cité, the Global Research Institute of Paris, and the Université de la Manouba. The symposium was entitled "Societal Engagement of Organizations and Sustainability in Africa: Catalysts for Resilience in the Face of Multiple Crises?"

13 December 2024: ISCAE hosted ISCAE INNOVE, an event aimed at raising students' awareness of the socio-economic potential of the Manouba region and encouraging them to explore entrepreneurial opportunities.

RIGUEUR Lab Workshop
On 30 November 2024, a workshop titled "Intelligent Data-Enabled Analytics (IDEA): A New Paradigm for Research in Management Science" was organized by the RIGUEUR research laboratory. The workshop highlighted a new research paradigm that integrates Business Analysis and Artificial Intelligence. This paradigm introduces innovative approaches to descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analysis, supported by advanced intelligent tools. It explores how data can be harnessed to generate value, with concrete applications across key sectors. The workshop presents promising opportunities for benchmarking and optimization, while also paving the way for both theoretical and practical research advancements.
Conference on ‘Global performance, what conceptions in the face of environmental injustice’, organised by the LIGUE laboratory
14 December 2024: The theme of the conference was quantification, with a focus on performance, particularly in the business context. The conference explored how quantification not only affects shareholder interests but also includes non-financial indicators related to strategic objectives.
The assessment of performance through quantification, often linked to variable employee remuneration, can sometimes create pressures and lead to stress and unhappiness in the workplace. However, the conference emphasized the positive potential of quantification, highlighting how, when used effectively, it can drive success and even save lives in certain contexts.
The discussions underscored the dual impact of quantification—its challenges and its transformative benefits, fostering a broader understanding of its role in both business and beyond.
Writing & Creativity Experiences: Conference of the Semantic Research and Computational Linguistics Laboratory
20 December 2024: A national conference entitled ‘Experiences of Writing and Creation in Children's and Young People's Literature’ was held at the Faculty of Letters, Arts, and Humanities in Manouba, as part of the Semantic Renewal Group project.
The conference focused on various issues related to creative writing, with particular attention to children's literature. The event featured a series of presentations that deepened the discussion on the challenges of creative writing and teaching in this field.
Tunisian university teachers from different disciplines participated in the conference, enriching the dialogue and contributing to a broader reflection on the importance of fostering creativity in literature for younger audiences. The meeting highlighted the significance of this essential area in the development of both literary skills and pedagogical approaches.
Selection for Student Entrepreneur Certification & Inception of the UMA PEE Student Entrepreneur Centre Courses
From 4 to 12 November 2024: The selection sessions for UMA students applying for the Student Entrepreneur Status took place, with the participation of members of the steering committee, academic referents, and experts from the socio-economic world. A total of 74 candidates were selected during these sessions.
The UMA's Student Entrepreneur Pole (PEE) also offers a broad range of activities aimed at supporting student entrepreneurs, who are the future drivers of innovative ideas and projects. The pole provides essential resources and guidance to help students transform their entrepreneurial aspirations into tangible, impactful ventures.

18 December 2024: The Pôle Étudiant Entrepreneur de l'Université de La Manouba (UMA PEE) organised a training course for student entrepreneurs (EEs) led by Mr. Mohamed Turki, a Nova Global Consultant and Nova Global MRC certified trainer. This training aimed to help participants discover their entrepreneurial profile, identify their strengths and areas for improvement, and gain a deeper understanding of themselves to maximise their chances of success in their projects.

UMA Holds EAD Day
On 3 December 2024, the University of La Manouba organized a day dedicated to Distance Learning (DL), bringing together experts, educators, and students to discuss the benefits and challenges of DL. The event featured conferences and interactive workshops, providing participants with the opportunity to explore best practices and innovative digital tools that enhance the distance learning experience. Several educators also shared their personal experiences with distance learning, reflecting on both successes and challenges while offering insights into potential improvements. The primary goal of the event was to promote the use of digital technologies to enhance the quality of distance learning and address the associated technical and pedagogical challenges.
Study Day on Research at UMA
On 4 December 2024, UMA organized a research day to showcase the work and innovations of its researchers. The event brought together academics, students, and professionals to discuss scientific advancements and future prospects across various fields of research.
The day featured presentations organized into two brainstorming workshops, offering a platform for exchange and collaboration among participants. The discussions spanned a broad range of topics, from the humanities and social sciences to the exact and applied sciences. The event fostered collective thinking and strengthened connections between the academic community and research professionals.
Closing of the ‘PromESsE’ project
On 13 December 2024, the President of the University of La Manouba participated in the closing seminar of the PromESsE project, which focuses on modernizing higher education to enhance employability.
As part of this initiative, the UMA secured competitive funds to finance 21 projects totaling 11,791,745.3 dinars under the PromESsE framework. These projects include the PAQ-DGSU and 7 PAQ-DGSE projects, aimed at improving the strategic management of universities and higher education and research establishments (EESR).
The projects target key areas such as training, employability, research, and innovation. One of the PAQ-DGSU projects, entitled Clever4Huma, focuses on the university's social responsibility and aims to strengthen its capacity to train the citizens of tomorrow.
Additionally, the AMU has secured funding for collaborative projects involving technopoles and mobility programs for doctoral and post-doctoral students, with the goal of developing and exploiting the innovative results generated by its research structures.
First UMA Culture Day
On 11 December 2024, the University of La Manouba organized the first edition of UMA Culture Day, an event designed to showcase the artistic talents of students through a variety of cultural activities, including theatre, poetry, drawing, music, singing, and photography. Students also participated in themed workshops, offering sessions in drama, eco-design, poetry, drawing, music, singing, and photography, giving them the opportunity to explore and develop their artistic skills across multiple areas.
During the event, students presented their work to a panel of expert judges, who assessed the creativity and quality of the productions. Prizes were awarded to the winning students in recognition of their talent and artistic dedication.
The event was a great success, bringing together students, faculty, and members of the university community in a festive and inspiring atmosphere. This initiative helped strengthen cultural ties within the university and celebrated the diversity of artistic talent within the community.
Study Day Targets Excellence in Certification and Accreditation
On 20 December 2024, UMA organized a study day focused on "Certification & Accreditation," bringing together experts, academics, and professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with these processes in the field of higher education.
The day began with a series of lectures by specialists, who shared their expertise and insights into certification and accreditation processes. The speakers emphasized the crucial role of these processes in ensuring the quality of teaching and enhancing the competitiveness of academic institutions.
Interactive workshops followed, allowing participants to familiarize themselves with the various stages and evaluation criteria of the certification and accreditation processes. These practical sessions provided a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practices, and strengthen participants' skills in this strategic area.
The event concluded with a roundtable discussion, where participants debated the challenges and opportunities of implementing certification and accreditation within their respective institutions. The discussions highlighted the importance of close collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure the success of these initiatives.
