Pr. Rim Driouich Chaouachi: An Inspiring Academic.
February 11, 2025: On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a tribute was paid to Ms. Rim Driouich Chaouachi for her exemplary career in the scientific field.
Established by the United Nations, this day highlights the contributions of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and promotes their inclusion and visibility.
Professor Chaouachi's commitment to advancing knowledge and mentoring young minds embodies female excellence in science. This tribute also underscores the importance of encouraging young girls to pursue careers in science.
Pr. Farouk Kamoun: A Computer Science pioneer in Tunisia
January 14, 2025: During the 24th edition of the S.A. Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award ceremony, Professor Farouk Kamoun was honored with an excellence award for his distinguished scientific and professional career. As a pioneer in computer science in Tunisia, Professor Kamoun has significantly influenced the national digital landscape. In the 1970s, he contributed to research on hierarchical routing protocols and became the country's first professor of computer science in 1976. He served as the director of ENSI at UMA from 1993 to 1999, founded the CRISTAL laboratory, and initiated doctoral training programs. His work has profoundly impacted the scientific and technological landscape of Tunisia. Professor Kamoun graduated from Supélec in 1970 and earned his doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). His research has been instrumental in the development of the Internet in Tunisia.

UMA pays tribute to two of its distinguished faculty who have left a lasting legacy
Prof. Souhaïl Chemli
The University of La Manouba has paid a solemn tribute to two of its distinguished faculty who recently passed away.
Souhaïl Chemli, an esteemed professor of Arabic language, translator, and dedicated activist, died on March 9th. His teaching and commitment left a profound impact on academic and cultural life.
Sami Faïz, Professor of computer science and former director of ISAMM, was a renowned expert in geomatics. He passed away on February 14th, having made significant contributions to research and the promotion of multimedia technologies.
We pray that the memory of Souhaïl Chemli and Sami Faïz remains alive in the hearts of those they educated, guided, and inspired, and that their legacy continues to motivate future generations.
May God, the Most Merciful, grant them His infinite grace, welcome them into His vast paradise, and bring comfort to their loved ones.

UNESCO Chair in Higher Education for Sustainable Development in Africa: This chair was established under the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs program. It is the fifth of its kind at the national level, the fifth at the global level, and the twelfth in the Maghreb region and Africa. Its objective is to enhance the visibility of Tunisian universities in general, and the University of Manouba in particular. Under this agreement, the University of Manouba commits to mobilizing its human and material resources to actively contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to integrate these principles into its missions of teaching, research, and governance.

“MOBIDOC Green Post-doc”: Informing and educating session
As part of the Research and Higher Education Support Project in the Environmental Sector (ARESSE Project), funded by the European Union, the National Agency for the Promotion of Scientific Research (ANPR) has announced the launch of a new session of the MOBIDOC program, called MOBIDOC Vert. To mark this occasion, an informational and awareness session titled “MOBIDOC Green Post-doc” was organized for university researchers. This event served as an opportunity to present the program’s objectives, participation requirements, and the opportunities it offers.
Higher Education Reform: UMA at the Heart of the EPST Transformation
On January 16, 2025, the University of La Manouba, together with 12 other Tunisian universities, the National Agency for the Promotion of Scientific Research (ANPR), and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, participated in a crucial meeting to develop a roadmap for implementing the Scientific and Technological Public Institution (EPST) status, which represents a significant step toward greater administrative and financial autonomy for universities while enhancing their research and innovation capabilities. The University of La Manouba actively engaged in co-construction workshops alongside other institutions, gathering university presidents, vice-presidents, general secretaries, financial directors, and senior ministry officials. These collaborative efforts resulted in a clear and pragmatic action plan for the short and medium term to ensure the successful implementation of the new status. The meeting was further enriched by the presence of HERE Tunisia committee members and the Erasmus+ Tunisia coordinator, who provided valuable European insights into higher education reform. This marks a strategic milestone for the future of Tunisian universities, and the University of La Manouba is proud to be actively involved.
International Conference: History & Science encounters
On February 17, 18, and 19, 2025, the University of La Manouba, in partnership with UCLouvain and several Tunisian and international institutions, organized an international conference titled “When History and Science Meet: What Historical Perspective on the Circulation of Knowledge in the Middle Ages?” The event took place at the National Library of Tunisia and the Beit al-Hikma Academy, bringing together over fifty researchers from more than ten countries. Supported by various research laboratories and organizations, including the French Institute of Tunisia, this conference aimed to revitalize studies on the history of science by adopting a global, decentralized, and contextualized approach. Discussions focused on the circulation of knowledge between East and West, the relationship between science and society, and scientific practices in the Middle Ages, encompassing medicine, mathematics, theology, and occult sciences.
On March 19, 2025, the University of La Manouba organized an informational session on managing research structures, held at Carthage El Hadatha on the university campus. This session targeted researchers, professors, and academic leaders, aiming to clarify new regulatory provisions, funding mechanisms, and scientific valorization procedures to optimize the efficiency of laboratories and research units.

Collaboration between UMA and Italian Universities
On January 17, 2025, Professor Ameur Cherif, President of the University of La Manouba, received Professor Fabio Ruggirello, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Tunis, Professors Meriem Dhouib Dhaoui and Alfonso Campisi (FLAHM). This meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress of ongoing projects with Italian partner universities and explore new avenues for collaboration, including the creation of a Certificate of Complementary Studies in Italian language, the organization of cultural events, the establishment of summer schools, and the signing of a framework agreement. The university president emphasized that UMA is the only Tunisian university offering a master's and doctorate in Italian literature and civilization. Professor Ruggirello reaffirmed his support for these initiatives, which aim to enhance bilateral academic and cultural outreach.
UMA & CONECT Sign Strategic Agreement
The University of La Manouba, represented by its President, Professor Ameur Cherif, and CONECT, represented by its President, Mr. Aslan Berjeb, have signed a partnership agreement aimed at strengthening ties between the academic world and the socio-economic sector. This collaboration is part of the UMA-PEE Student Entrepreneur Hub and seeks to enhance youth employability, promote scientific research, and foster innovation through the Technology Transfer Office (BuTT). The initiative is led by Ms. Chiraz Bassoumi, Director of the UMA Student Entrepreneur Hub, and Mr. Wahb Ouertani, General Director of CONECT Intech, demonstrating a shared commitment to supporting young talent and entrepreneurship.
Strengthening Tunisian-Spanish Academic Relations
On February 6, 2025, the University of La Manouba welcomed a Spanish delegation led by Mr. Lorenzo Capellán, Education Advisor at the Spanish Embassy, and Mr. Germinal Gil de Garcia, Director of the Cervantes Institute in Tunis. The meeting was chaired by Professor Ameur Chérif, with Professor Azza Frikha, Vice-President of UMA, Professor Moncef Taieb, Dean of the Faculty of Letters, Arts, and Humanities, and Professor Ridha Mami, Head of the Spanish Language Department, in attendance. This gathering aimed to strengthen cooperation in Spanish language and literature, focusing on the signing of framework agreements and the joint organization of the upcoming Tunisian-Spanish Forum for Creators and Writers, scheduled for October 2025. This event will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Spanish Department at the Faculty of Letters of the University of La Manouba. The visit also serves to further consolidate academic and cultural ties between Tunisia and Spain, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering scientific collaboration and cultural exchange.
Two Cooperation Agreements between the University of La Manouba and Al-Bayan University
On February 14, 2025, the University of La Manouba held an official ceremony to sign two cooperation agreements with Al-Bayan University in the Sultanate of Oman, marking a significant strengthening of academic relations between the two institutions. The first agreement is a framework convention aimed at promoting academic mobility, scientific exchanges, and the sharing of educational resources. The second agreement, signed between the Institute of Press and Information Sciences (IPSI) at UMA and Al-Bayan University, establishes a joint master's program in media and communication with a focus on information technologies. These agreements are part of a broader international cooperation strategy, reinforcing the University of La Manouba’s commitment to strategic partnerships and a globally oriented higher education system.
DIRASA Project Team Received at the University of Rouen
On February 24-25, 2025, the University of La Manouba, led by Professor Azza Frikha, Vice-President of the university, conducted a field visit to the University of Rouen in France as part of the DIRASA Project, which aims to redefine research governance in Tunisia. This initiative, supported by the Erasmus Plus program, seeks to enhance higher education competencies by promoting dialogue and scientific cooperation among various academic stakeholders. Participants included representatives from several Tunisian universities such as Sfax, Tunis, Tunis El Manar, Carthage, Sousse, Gabès, Manouba, Monastir, Kairouan, Gafsa, Jendouba, Ezzitouna, and the Virtual University of Tunisia, along with the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS), the National Agency for the Promotion of Scientific Research (ANPR), UNIMED – Union of Mediterranean Universities, the University of Pisa (Italy), the University of Pavia (Italy), CESIE (Italy), and the University of Rouen Normandie (France). This visit is part of a broader effort to strengthen international academic collaboration and contribute to the improvement of research governance and the development of innovation strategies within Tunisian universities.
Romanian Delegation visits UMA
On February 6, 2025, the University of La Manouba hosted an official delegation from the Republic of Romania, led by Mr. Valentin-Ciprian Muntean, the Romanian Ambassador to Tunisia, and accompanied by his deputy, Mr. Constantin Tudor. The delegation also included Mr. Liviu Lucaci, President of the University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest, and his Vice-President, Mr. Bogdan Mustata. Welcomed by Professor Ameur Cherif, President of the University of La Manouba, the guests attended a presentation on the university’s structure and academic programs. Mr. Lucaci introduced his institution, which specializes in arts and cinema, and expressed his desire to strengthen ties with the University of La Manouba. Discussions centered on preparing a cooperation agreement between the two universities to initiate academic and scientific collaboration. The Romanian delegation concluded its visit with a meeting with Director of Higher Institute of Multimedia Arts of La Manouba ( ISAMM), which included exchanges with students and a tour of educational facilities and studios.
Tunisian-British Cooperation: UMA Moves Towards a Strengthened Partnership with Bournemouth University - UK
On March 11, 2025, the University of La Manouba (UMA) took a significant step towards establishing a strategic partnership with Bournemouth University, under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. An international webinar brought together renowned experts from Bournemouth University, Oxford University, the Langford Institute, Green Thread, and Get Genome, exploring Tunisian-British cooperation prospects in research and academic training. Four key priorities were identified:

UMA–UVT Information Session on Digital Collaboration Opportunities
On February 13, 2025, the University of La Manouba hosted the seminar “Educational Digitalization” at Carthage Al Hadetha Amphitheater, a major event bringing together experts, professors, and researchers to discuss current and future challenges of digital technology in education. This seminar served as a dynamic exchange platform, focusing on exploring new digital practices and their impact on teaching and learning. Discussions covered several key topics, including:

On January 24, 2025, the UNESCO Chair on Higher Education for Sustainable Development at the University of La Manouba (UMA) celebrated the International Day of Education and the World Day of African and Afro-descendant Culture by organizing a thematic morning themed “Education and Training in Africa: What Challenges for a Sustainable Future?” This event brought together experts, professors, and researchers to discuss key issues in education and training in Africa, highlighting both challenges and opportunities for the continent’s sustainable development. Through this initiative, UMA reaffirms its commitment to education, cultural diversity, and academic dialogue, showcasing innovative solutions for enhanced inclusion and a promising future. Verification of Diplomas and Administrative Documents
March 17, 2025: A new measure has been implemented regarding the authentication of diplomas and administrative documents issued by Tunisian universities. Universities are now responsible for certifying documents from their affiliated institutions, which simplifies the validation process for students and graduates seeking to use these documents abroad. Previously, this task was exclusively handled by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. With this reform, each university will take charge of certifying documents from its own institutions. According to the new certification procedure at UMA, scanned documents for authentication must be sent exclusively via the following email: Authentification.doc@uma.tn

"Zen and High Performance" Workshop
On February 18, 2025, Room 4C hosted a training session titled "The Winning Combo for Students," led by Ms. Lobna Jabrouni Bouanene, an expert in soft skills, teaching techniques, and a certified coach specializing in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). This workshop provided participants with practical tools to enhance their personal effectiveness, communication, and self-confidence, empowering them to succeed in their academic and professional journeys.
EMI Certificate Award Ceremony
On January 27, 2025, the University of La Manouba hosted a certificate award ceremony to recognize faculty members and administrative staff from the School of Engineering of La Manouba (MSE) who completed the "English as a Medium of Instruction" (EMI) training program. This program, which included five sessions focused on didactics and curriculum design, was held in October and November 2024. The University of La Manouba and MSE expressed their sincere gratitude to all partners who contributed to the success of this initiative, especially the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia and the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

From February 4 to 6, 2025, the FAM (Women & Handicrafts in Media) project created an exchange space at ESSED, uniting artisans, designers, researchers, and heritage enthusiasts. February 15, 2025, In line with its communication strategy with high school graduates, ESEN participated in the ISC Career Forum, where students, accompanied by club representatives, presented academic programs and student life at ESEN to visitors. ISCAE Supports Student Entrepreneurship with the Company Program
February 5, 2025: The Higher Institute of Accounting and Business Administration (ISCAE) hosted the fourth edition of the local Company Program competition in partnership with Injaz Tunisia and 4C-ISCAE. As part of the Entrepreneurial Skills 3 module, third-year students advanced their entrepreneurial journey by applying management, innovation, and leadership skills. This culminated in the creation of 17 startups that competed for national qualification and the opportunity to represent ISCAE and UMA at the regional level.

Design Thinking Training
February 5 & 8, 2025: The Student Entrepreneurship Hub at the University of Manouba organized a specialized training session on Design Thinking, an innovative approach that enables student entrepreneurs to develop creative, user-centered solutions. Led by Mr. Wahb Ouertani, participants explored the key stages of Design Thinking: empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing. Students learned to transform ideas into tangible projects while adopting an agile and collaborative mindset, which enhanced their innovation skills and accelerated their entrepreneurial journey.

The University of Manouba (UMA) and its Student Entrepreneur Hub (UMA-PEE) kicked off the new year with a renewed focus on training and supporting student entrepreneurs toward success. Online Course Scripting and Digital Mediation
January 20 - 22, 2025: As part of its strategy to modernize education and enhance digital skills, the Digital Department of the University of Manouba (UMA) organized a specialized training on integrating digital tools into pedagogical practices in partnership with the Virtual University of Tunis (UVT). Led by Mrs. Hajer Sdiri, an expert in digital pedagogy, this three-day training enabled teachers to explore innovative solutions for online course design, interactive session facilitation, and digital learning assessment. Through a practical and participatory approach, participants experimented with various tools and methodologies that support hybrid and distance learning. A big thank you to UVT, a key partner in this initiative, for its commitment to the digital transformation of higher education.
