This module contains two components: Phonology and morphology. In the morphology subcomponent of the course, students are introduced to the field of linguistic morphology. After definitions of morphology are provided, focus will be on the units of analysis in morphology, the various morphological processes, the inflectional and derivational components of morphology, the morpho-phonology and morpho-syntax interfaces, morphological typology, and basic techniques of morphological analysis. In the phonology subcomponent of the course, students are introduced to the field of Generative Phonology. After definitions of phonology are provided, focus will be on the various units used in phonology (phoneme, distinctive feature...), the different phonological processes, underlying representations, rule formalism, and basic techniques of phonological analysis.
