The Smart AI Showdown Challenge: Unleashing Intelligence
The goal of the competition is to build and present a digital research assistant powered by machine learning and AI technologies in financial data, biological (biodiversity, genome, bioinformatic), material properties and social science (law, economics, languages, arts etc) databases. The research assistant should be capable of helping researchers in their tasks, including but not limited to:
Literature Review: The assistant should be able to search, collect, and summarize relevant research papers and articles based on specific queries or topics provided by the user.
Data Analysis: The assistant should be capable of processing and analyzing data from various sources, providing insights, and generating visualizations to aid in research projects.
Natural Language Processing (NLP): The research assistant should have advanced NLP capabilities to understand and answer questions, provide explanations, and assist in writing research documents.
Task Automation: The assistant can automate repetitive tasks, such as data gathering, formatting, and organization, to streamline the research process.
Recommendation System: The research assistant can suggest relevant research topics, methodologies, or potential collaborators based on the user's interests and existing work.
Competition Criteria
A team of 4-6 (undergraduate and/or postgraduate) students (at least 3 from the Faculty of Science, UM & the rest from other faculties).
The team must appoint one academic advisor (from any faculty) who could guide and motivate the team.
The team leader must register online before 30 August 2023
Winning digital submissions will be used for the promotion at the Faculty of Science at different platforms.
The competition runs from 1st August 2023 till 20th October 2023 with a Grand Finale presentation at the Universiti Malaya Sustainability Festival (27 Oct 2023).

Rules
Participants can use any programming language and machine learning framework of their choice to build their research assistants.
The research assistants should be built from scratch specifically for this competition and should not infringe upon any existing copyrights or intellectual property rights.
Each team or individual can submit one research assistant for evaluation.
Submissions will be evaluated based on their functionality, usability, accuracy, and overall performance.
All participants must submit their research assistants along with short introductory video (<3mins), relevant documentation and user guides for the judges to review.
