Membership Training was introduce to the student who major in Korea Studies. It is part of Korean University culture to connect and promote harmonoious among the students. Membership Training is basically a vacation for a group of students going off campus and engaging in various activities and games.
For Korea Studies students, usually gather at the University of Malaya before departed to the destination by bus. Students will stay overnight and filled with various activities such as recreation, cooking, dinner and drinks, playing games and so on. The department will pay part of the cost and the rest will be borne by the student.
The main goal of Membership Training is to build community and close relationships between seniors and juniors. In this context, the idea of Membership Training is used as a platform for them to get to know each other, spend fun time togather outside of the class. During the Membership Training, the senior students will play the role as organizer and mentor. With Membership Training, junior students are exposed to university student life by their mentors.

Membership Training merupakan budaya yang diambil dari universiti Korea untuk menghubungkan dan menggalakkan keharmonian antara semua pelajar. Membership Training pada asasnya ialah percutian bersama sekumpulan pelajar keluar dari kampus dan melibatkan diri dalam pelbagai aktiviti dan permainan.
Bagi pelajar pengajian Korea, biasanya pelajar akan berkumpul di Universiti (UM Central) dan menuju ke lokasi tujuan dengan menaiki bas. Pelajar akan bermalam sehingga keesokan pagi. MT melibatkan pelbagai aktiviti seperti berekreasi, memasak, makan malam dan minuman, bermain sukaneka dan sebagainya. Pihak jabatan akan membayar sebahagian kos dan selebihnya ditanggung oleh pelajar.
Matlamat utama Membership Training adalah bagi membina komuniti dan hubungan rapat antara senior dan junior. Dalam konteks ini, idea Membership Training digunakan sebagai platform untuk mereka mengenali antara satu sama lain, menghabiskan masa yang menyeronokkan di luar kelas kuliah. Semasa Membership Training, pelajar tahun senior yang terlibat akan memainkan peranan sebagai hos dan mentor. Dengan adanya Membership Training, pelajar junior didedahkan dengan kehidupan pelajar universiti oleh mentor mereka.

The Department of East Asian Studies encouraged all of its student to join the exchange program. This is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to the students especially to study in Korean university for a long or short program (one semester or two semesters).
The exchange programs are usually exposed to the student the reality of Korea – in term of academic exposure as well as cultural experience. Students can have an extraordinary experience by attending academic lectures, cultural workshops as well as visiting some interesting places in South Korea. The students could improve their soft skills and broaden their perspectives.
Among the Korean universities accepted the University of Malaya’s students the University of Seoul, Yonsei University, Chonnam National University and Hallym University.
Di Jabatan Pengajian Asia Timur terutamanya Pengajian Korea, pelajar digalakkan untuk merebut peluang sekali seumur hidup untuk menyertai program keluar di universiti Korea. Program pertukaran pelajar biasanya terbuka kepada pelajar untuk ke Korea Selatan selama satu semester atau dua semester (setahun).
Pelajar turut didedahkan dengan kemudahan dari segi bantuan kewangan untuk menjalankan program ini. Program ini menawarkan bukan sahaja pengalaman akademik tetapi juga budaya yang boleh meningkatkan kemahiran insaniah pelajar dan meluaskan perspektif mereka. Pelajar turut dapat merasai pengalaman luar biasa di sana menghadiri kuliah akademik, bengkel kebudayaan serta lawatan ke beberapa tempat menarik di Korea Selatan.
Antara universiti Korea yang pernah bergabung dengan Universiti Malaya dalam program pertukaran pelajar adalah University of Seoul, Yonsei University, Chonnam National University dan Hallym University.

Since 2006, the South Korean Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has organized the Korean Language Speech Contest. The yearly event was initiated to promote Korean culture, language and society to the world.
Participants are required to choose one of the three topics given and submit their application within the specified time. The participant has to go through a telephone interview with a panel of judges to determine their level of Korean language proficiency.
In 2019, the competition was held at the Auditorium, Asia-Europe Institute (AEI), University Malaya. Among the students of the Korea Studies student who participate in the event were Aezlyn Fariesha and Nurul Syakirah. Both of the students managed to win second place and consolation price.
Kedutaan Korea Selatan menganjurkan Korean Speech Contest setiap tahun sejak 2006, iaitu pertandingan bercakap dalam bahasa Korea sebagai inisiatif untuk mempromosikan kebudayaan, bahasa dan masyarakat Korea kepada dunia.
Peserta dikehendaki memilih satu daripada tiga topik yang diberikan dan menghantar permohonan mereka dalam masa ditetapkan. Seterusnya, setiap peserta perlu melalui proses temu duga melalui telefon bersama panel juri untuk menentukan tahap penguasaan bahasa Korea masing-masing.
Pada tahun 2019, pertandingan ini dijalankan di Auditorium, Asia-Europe Institute (AEI), Universiti Malaya. Antara pelajar jabatan yang terlibat ialah Aezlyn Fariesha dan Nurul Syakirah yang mana masing-masing mendapat tempat kedua dan saguhati.
The 14th Korean Speech Contest in Malaysia (2019)
Each year students who are graduating will be celebrated by everyone including universities, lecturers, juniors and friends. This is also an honor for the graduates who have successfully completed their studies and become the University of Malaya alumni.
Korea Studies students are usually celebrated with small-scale events. They were given by junior students with gifts, flower petals etc. The celebration is to maintain the relationship between them as well as to enliven the convocation day.
Setiap tahun pelajar yang bergraduasi akan diraikan oleh semua orang termasuk oleh university, pensyarah, junior dan juga rakan-rakan. sebagai penghargaan kepada graduan yang telah berjaya menamatkan pengajian dan menjadi alumni Universiti Malaya.
Pelajar pengajian Korea biasanya diraikan dengan acara kecil-kecilan. Mereka dihadiahkan oleh pelajar junior dengan hadiah, jambangan bunga dan sebagainya. Sambutan ini adalah bagi mengekalkan hubungan antara pelajar serta memeriahkan suasana hari konvokesyen.
