Welcome to the Canary Islands!
The Canary Islands form a unique archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the northwest coast of Africa. Although geographically closer to Africa, the islands are an autonomous community of Spain and fully integrated into the European Union. This combination of geographic location and political identity creates a fascinating cultural blend that has developed over centuries through exchanges with Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
The islands enjoy a mild subtropical climate year-round, making them a popular destination for visitors seeking pleasant weather in any season. Beyond the climate, the Canaries are known for their diverse landscapes, ranging from volcanic mountains and rugged coastlines to lush forests and golden beaches.
Among the eight main islands, Tenerife stands out as the largest and most populous, offering a vibrant mix of natural beauty, culture, and innovation that makes it the perfect host for our event.
Tenerife is the cultural, academic, and economic heart of the Canary Islands. With nearly one million inhabitants, it offers the perfect balance between tradition and modernity.
The island is known for:
Mount Teide, the highest point in Spain (3,718 m) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Charming colonial towns like La Laguna and La Orotava
A vibrant arts scene, local gastronomy, and unique ecosystems
Although geographically close to Africa, Tenerife is fully integrated into the EU and Schengen Area, making travel easy for European participants.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna is a city rich in history and culture, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its well-preserved colonial architecture and urban layout. Founded in the late 15th century, it was the first capital of Tenerife and served as a model for many cities in Latin America.
The city’s historic center is pedestrian-friendly, featuring charming cobbled streets, colorful buildings, churches, museums, traditional cafés, and boutique shops. Situated at around 600 meters above sea level, La Laguna enjoys a cooler, more temperate climate compared to the coastal areas, giving it a unique atmosphere, especially in the autumn months.
Today, La Laguna thrives as a university town, hosting a lively community of students, academics, and cultural events that enrich its vibrant social life.
