Below are the instructions to log your project onto ManageBac for the first time. You can also watch the online tutorial here. All online tutorials are in the Resources section of this site.
Log into ManageBac.
Go to 'IB Groups' and select 'SA' from the menu ('SA' stands for 'Service as Action.')
Select 'Add SA Activity' using the button in the upper right corner of the screen.
If your service activity is linked to your Service Project, your advisor may have set up the information for you already. Look at the 'Select Activity from a Group' option to see if your ASP is listed there. If it isn't, continue following the directions below.
Type in your activity name with 'ASP' at the front (for example, 'ASP - Lower School Movie Night Fundraiser').
Location: 'In-School'
Tick the box that says 'Service as Action'.
Start and end dates: Add as your start date the date your group started thinking about and planning your ASP. Add as the end date the date when you present to assembly, or the date when your project is completed.
Supervisor: put in your advisory teacher's name, their title (Advisory Teacher), their email address and the school's phone number (01784 430 800)
Description and Goals: Below is an example - please put in something similar. You need to have a detailed description and goals, or else your project won't be approved.
The main goal for this project is to raise awareness and provide fundraising for the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. Our advisory group plans on doing this by holding a Lower School movie night, which is currently scheduled for 15 March 2015 after school. The event is for students from Grade 3-5. We are raising awareness about the importance of the hospital by putting posters up throughout the school. We are raising funds by charging money for each ticket. Our advisory group has set the goals of raising awareness and raising funds for GOSH. I have also set some personal goals for this project. I plan to improve my ability to work collaboratively with other students. I am part of the "Food" committee, and as part of that committee, I have to work with two other students to plan the food that is going to be provided at the movie. Another goal for myself is to become more confident at public speaking. I will do this by presenting our committee's ideas to the rest of our class. This project is a personal challenge for me because I have never been involved in organising an event with this many people. Throughout this project, I plan to show commitment, initiative and dedication.
11. 'Targeted learning outcomes' are the things that you think you will learn about by completing the project. Choose only the ones that directly link to your project - don't choose all of them!!
12. Organisation: If your project is linked to an outside organisation (the Red Cross, Guide Dogs, Sunrise Living etc), add that organisation here.
13. Activity Aim: In this place, you should describe how your project is intended to benefit other people, or the environment, or the community.
14. Click 'Add SA Activity' and your activity will be posted on ManageBac!
Once you have added your ASP, you can upload the 'evidence' that you have of your work and write reflections on your experiences.
As you work on your project, you can upload Google docs that your class has shared, pictures or videos that you have taken, the proposal forms, etc.
To upload evidence, follow these steps or watch the online tutorial here:
Log onto ManageBac.
Select the SA tab.
Select your ASP project, which should bring you to a different page.
Click on the "Add Reflections and Evidence" button in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Here, you can write a reflection (in the 'journal' tab), add a link to a website, upload a video, upload photos and upload files.
It is compulsory to write at least one reflection on every ASP and service activity. A reflection should include thoughts on what went well throughout your project, what didn't go so well (why?), and what you would do differently in the future. You could also reflect on the learning outcomes you chose at the start of the project and explain what you have learned in relation to each outcome. These reflections are really important - they help you to learn from the process and get better at organising future service projects! You can watch the online tutorial on how to write a reflection on ManageBac. All online tutorials are in the Resources section of this site.
Your activity should have the following three elements:
A description of the activity
One or many selected learning outcomes
A supervisor with contact details
Once these three elements are on your ManageBac activity file, it will be approved.
Your activity should have:
An evidence that you did what you said you would do
A reflection on the process that led to the completion of the activity
A supervisor's review marking your activity as complete
Once these three elements are on your ManageBac activity file, it will be marked as complete.
