About me
I am a Full Professor of Economics at Universitat Jaume I (Spain), where I hold an ad personam Jean Monnet Chair in European Economic Integration and coordinate the Economic Integration Joint Research Unit (INTECO). I earned my Ph.D. in Economics with honors (Premio Extraordinario) from the University of Valencia and an M.A. in Advanced European Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. In my research career, I have served as the Principal Investigator (PI) for numerous competitive national and international research projects. My scientific contributions are extensively published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including European Economic Review, European Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Economic Inquiry, and the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, focusing primarily on open economy macroeconomics, international trade, exchange rates, and applied econometrics.
Deeply engaged in peer-review excellence, I contribute to three major international journals, serving concurrently as an Associate Editor for Economic Modelling, an Associate Editor for the Journal of Economic Integration, and an Editorial Board Member for International Economics. I have been scientific evaluator at both the European and national levels. I have acted as an independent evaluator for the European Commission programs, as well as for Latvia and Polonia, and regularly collaborate with national and regional evaluation agencies, such as AEI, ANECA, AGAUR, and AVAP.
I also collaborate as international consultant and policy advisor. Since March 2026, I am a consultant for the World Bank specializing in Higher Education and Research. My advisory history with the European Commission includes serving as the Panel Chair for the Policy Support Facility (PSF) under Horizon Europe for Romania (2021–2023) and under Horizon 2020 for Latvia (2019–2020).
