Videogames Research Group - INIT UJI
Hello! We are a research group situated on Jaume I University in Castellón, Spain. The group is part of INIT (Institute of New Imaging Technologies). The aim of the group is to delve into lines of research related to learning and developing video games. The main fields in which the group works are:
Fit games (games to make exercise)
Emerging technologies such as AR and VR
Development of game engines
Geo games (games that use real word ubications)
Development of tools for graphics generation
Artificial Intelligence for games (example: NPCs training with machine learning)
Miguel Chover is Professor of the University of the Department of Computer Languages and Systems at the Jaume I University of Castellón.
He received his doctorate in computer science at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 1996. He has been director of the Degree in Videogame Design and Development, and he is member of the Interactive Visualization Center and member of the Institute of New Image Technologies of the University of Jaume I.
His lines of research include: geometric modeling, interactive visualization and video game technology.
He is an active member of the Spanish Association of Computer Graphics EUROGRAPHICS S.E and a member of the executive committee of the Spanish Society of Video Game Sciences (SECiVi).
Micaela Martin is a PhD student in Computer Science at the UJI, with a grant from the ValgrAI Artificial Intelligence Foundation. She belongs to the research group GameRS – Video Games Research Group of the UJI, and has worked on research projects in the same. Her research lines are related to Video Games, Artificial Intelligence and Information Theory applications. Micaela Yanet Martin’s university education includes the degrees of Bachelor in Mathematical Sciences and Professor in Mathematical Sciences at the National University of Mar del Plata in Argentina, obtaining merit for outstanding average in both and getting research grants funded by the same University and by the National Interuniversity Council.
Carlos is a developer of video games and computer graphics. He did a Ph.D. Research on computer graphics and behavior specification for game engines at the Universitat Jaume I in Castellón, Spain. She is researching about procedural map generation in games, especially with Wave Function Collapse, and has been a part of the development of both "Fitoon" as a programmer and 3D character artist, and "Guardianes de Segorbe" as a programmer.
Nàdia is a PhD student in Computer Science at the UJI. She also studied Game Design and Development at University Jaume I and she is member of GameRS. She studied a Master's Degree in Intelligent Systems at UJI and right now, she is researching about AR programming, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Nàdia has been a part of the development of both "Fitoon" as AI programmer and "Guardianes de Segorbe" as a 3D and UI artist.
Elena Shliakhovchuk is a scientific postdoctoral researcher in game studies. She holds a PhD in Communication and Cultural Industries from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. She investigates the acquisition of soft skills, the power to reinforce or weaken cultural, racial and gender stereotypes and the cultural, social and communicative benefits of video games. Elena is the author of books on game-based learning, co-editor of three books at the American scientific publisher “IGI Global” on global education challenges and opportunities, and author of several intercultural learning tools with gamification elements (diversophy®UA, Cultural Detective®UA, CultureConnector®UA). Elena has been teaching online and offline intercultural competencies to the Forbes 500 companies since 2010. She is part of the executive committee of the Spanish Society for Video Game Sciences (SECiVi) and a coordinator of the Special Interest Group (SIG) Gamification of the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research (SIETAR).
