SHAH ALAM, 12 August 2026 — In a dedicated effort to bridge the gap between academia and early education, the Industry, Community and Alumni Network (ICAN) Unit, Faculty of Chemical Engineering at UiTM Shah Alam has successfully collaborated with SK Bukit Kemuning 2 (SKBK2). Acting as a Strategic Partner, the unit co-organized the Selangor State Level Art and Innovation Carnival 2026 alongside the Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Selangor (JPNS). This program provided a dynamic platform specifically designed to nurture creativity, design thinking, and STEM-driven innovation among primary school students.
A major highlight of the event was the Smart City Innovation Competition, where the ICAN FKK UiTM delegation had the distinct privilege of serving as official judges. Evaluating the remarkable ingenuity and sustainable solutions proposed by these young minds proved to be a truly inspiring experience for the academic delegates. The carnival successfully showcased brilliant, out-of-the-box ideas brought to life by the incredible students under the steadfast guidance of their dedicated teachers. This hands-on engagement allowed the university representatives to directly nurture and encourage the students' scientific curiosities.
The ICAN FKK UiTM extends its highest appreciation to Mr. Hamidi bin Sharif, Headmaster of SK Bukit Kemuning 2, as well as the organizing committee, dedicated educators, and participating students for making this initiative a resounding success. Moving forward, the ICAN FKK UiTM remains fully committed to inspiring the next generation of innovators through synergistic community engagement projects. This solid collaboration was driven by the strong commitment of the delegation comprising Dr. Husna Aini, Dr. Rabiatul Adawiyah Ali, Dr. Mazlinda Ab Rahman, Dr. Siti Nurliyana Che Mohamed Hussein, Ir. Dr. Mohd Saufi Md Zaini, Dr. Saiful Hafiz Habib, and Ts. Dr. Azreen Junaida.
The success of this carnival proves that the synergy between higher education institutions and schools can trigger an extraordinary impact and serve as a catalyst in shaping a future generation that is literate in science and innovation.
On 19 June 2026, the Faculty of Chemical Engineering (FKK), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), in collaboration with the Project Management Institute Malaysia Chapter (PMIMY) and supported by the Industry, Community and Alumni Network (ICAN) framework, successfully organized an insightful collaborative teaching session titled "From Waste to Carbon Sink: Advancing CCUS through Mineral Carbonation of Mining Residues."
The virtual event on Google Meet was a required session for CPE656 students, connecting academic theory to real-world industrial and community applications.
Key Highlights of the Program:
Expert Speaker: The session featured Dr. Sharifah Nur Munirah Syed Hasan, an Enforcement Officer from the Data and Digital Cyber Unit under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Kelantan.
Cutting-Edge Focus: The talk deep-dived into Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies, specifically exploring how mining industry waste residues can be safely and effectively converted into permanent carbon sinks through mineral carbonation.
Community & Environmental Impact: By addressing industrial waste management, the program highlighted how engineering solutions can directly benefit the community by reducing environmental hazards and driving Malaysia's green economy goals.
