The philosophy of the John B. Alexander Orchestra is rooted in the belief that music is a universal language that transcends cultural, social, and linguistic barriers. We strive to foster an environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.
We believe that every student, regardless of their musical background, has the potential to contribute to the orchestra in a meaningful way. We aim to provide each student with the opportunity to explore and develop their musical talents while also instilling a deep appreciation for the art of orchestral music. Our orchestra is not just about playing notes on a page, but about creating a shared musical experience that can inspire, challenge, and move both the performers and the audience. We value the process of learning and making music together as much as the final performance.
We encourage our students to strive for excellence, but also to embrace the joy and beauty of music. We believe that participation in the orchestra can help students develop important life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
Above all, our philosophy is centered on the idea that music can enrich our lives, bring us together, and help us to understand and express our shared humanity.

The J.B. Alexander orchestra was honored to perform for world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma at the "Bach Project" in the sister cities of Laredo, Texas, and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Laredo's "Day of Action" included performances in both cities to celebrate the relationship between the communities, astonishing Mr. Ma and the audience alike.
