Overview of I-TELL

I-TELL is an initiative committed to helping more educators across Indiana earn English as a New Language (ENL) licensure and serve as Teachers of Record for English learners across the state. I-TELL is offered through a partnership between the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis and the Indiana Department of Education. I-TELL funds the tuition, books, and material fees payable directly to the university, so there is no cost to the teacher or school to participate.

Who is EligiblE

Currently licensed teachers of any grade level and teachers with a charter license who are seeking an Indiana English as a New Language Professional Educator License are eligible.

Substitute teachers are not eligible.

School Obligations

Each participant will be required to provide a letter of support from the school’s administrator affirming the school’s intent to assign the teacher as a teacher of record for English learners in the school district after completion of the program. A sample letter of support can be found here.

Teacher Obligation

Provide a letter of intention to remain employed in an Indiana school as a teacher of record for English learners for at least two years past completion of the program and obtaining full licensure. A sample letter of intent can be found here.

Program Cost

The I-TELL project will cover the cost of the credit hours payable directly to the University selected by the participant including the cost of books/materials needed for each class.
