Indiana Teachers of English Learners Licensure (I-TELL)
I-TELL is an initiative committed to helping more educators across Indiana earn English as a New Language (ENL) licensure and serve as Teachers of Record for English learners across the state. I-TELL is offered through a partnership between the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis and the Indiana Department of Education.
The following are available through I-TELL:
Current educators can receive financial support for tuition, books, and material fees to complete licensure coursework,
Individuals who have completed an ENL preparation program can receive test preparation assistance if they have not obtained a passing score.
I-TELL will fund the tuition, books and material fees payable directly to the university, so there is no cost to the teacher or school to participate.
To be eligible for tuition support, a teacher must:
Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education;
Be currently employed in an Indiana school and have current licensure from the Indiana Department of Education;
Sign a letter of intention to remain employed in an Indiana school as a teacher of English learners for at least two years past completion of the program and full licensure;
Have demonstrated history of course completion and have demonstrated the academic aptitude necessary to complete the necessary coursework;
Have a letter of support from the school administrator, indicating the intent to assign the applicant as a Teacher of Record for English learners in the future academic year.
*A grade of no lower than a C+ needs to be maintained for continued funding.
*Substitute teachers are not eligible.
