What is the study about?
The Teachers Voices Project seeks to understand the experiences of educators that frequently use (or used) media for professional learning, networking, sharing self-developed resources/curriculum, or educational activism. The project will interview U.S. educators to gain an understanding of the experience and uses of social media in education by and for teachers in today’s landscape. Likewise, our partners in Spain will interview educators, and combined, the information gathered from this project will provide a comparative global perspective on teachers' experiences with social media.
When is it happening?
We will conduct interviews from from December 2025 to approximately August 2026
Where is it happening?
Participants for the U.S. project must be working in the U.S. Interviews will be conducted via video conference.*
Why is it important?
Social media shapes the information, socialization, and beliefs of many around the world, including the work of teachers and teaching. Yet there is little research that centers the voices and stories of teachers as to their experiences on social media in the current era. It is critical to understand both the challenges and opportunities that these spaces provide teachers from their own eyes, as well as the ways in which the social contexts and tools themselves shape teachers' identities and lives. Furthermore, this research will uncover the impact of teachers' voices on shaping educational issues, trends, and policies.
As a recognition of teachers’ valuable time, participants will receive a $50 gift certificate for school materials. If you are a K-12 U.S. educator who uses or used social media actively for professional purposes and you are interested in participating in the Teachers Voices Project study, please email uicstudy [at] tutamail.com.
