Our Surgical Seminars are anatomy-focused lectures that dive into unique surgical cases. Students have the opportunity to learn about specific surgical techniques and explore the related anatomy and physiology. Surgical Seminars are held on Tuesday mornings at 7:00am via zoom.
The Microsurgery lab is a 4-week hands-on course for medical students interested in surgery. Students will learn basic suturing skills and gain experience conducting arterial anastomoses under UICOM surgical microscopes. Students interested in attending the microsurgery lab must be able to dedicate 2 hours each week for 4-weeks.
30 for 30 is a series of lectures designed to prepare students for their surgery rotations. Each lecture is focused on a different aspect of surgery based on the chapters in the Essentials of General Surgery and Surgical Specialties by Peter F. Lawrence. The format is 30 minutes of lecture by a surgeon + 30 minutes of related board-style questions with discussion. The sessions are offered on Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm via zoom. Lunch and learn talks are lunchtime discussions with surgeons from different subspecialties. Students who attend can learn about the different opportunities within the surgical field and explore interest in various subspecialties. Lunch will be provided. Check our calendar to see when the next Lunch and Learn is scheduled.
Surgical Skills Workshops are hands-on sessions for students to gain experience learning and practicing important surgical techniques. These workshops will be taught by surgeons or skilled medical students and offer a great opportunity for students to get exposure to surgical skills early in their medical career.
