Spark Series Labs
Wednesdays 1:00-2:30
Douglass Hall - First Floor Board Room
Spark Series Labs are drop-in sessions where UIC students can start, test, or grow an idea with support from mentors and peers.
Spark Series Labs are designed to help students take their first steps toward starting something of their own — whether that’s a business, a side hustle, a social venture, or a creative project. Labs provide a supportive space to work on ideas, ask questions, and make progress, even if you’re still figuring things out.
You do not need a fully formed idea to participate. Curiosity and a willingness to try are enough.
Spark Series Labs are open, working sessions where students actively spend time developing ideas. Each Lab provides structure, guidance, and encouragement, helping participants move forward at their own pace.
Labs are flexible and designed to meet students where they are — from early curiosity to more developed venture concepts.
Spark Series Labs are open to UIC undergraduate and graduate students from all majors and backgrounds. Participants include students who:
Have an idea they want to explore
Are unsure where to start but want to try something entrepreneurial
Are actively working on a venture and want feedback and support
No prior experience is required.
During Spark Series Labs, students:
Work on their ideas in a supportive environment
Talk through challenges with mentors and peers
Get feedback to help clarify next steps
Learn by doing, experimenting, and reflecting
Labs are about making progress — not having everything figured out.
Spark Series Labs help students:
Build confidence by taking small, manageable steps
Learn entrepreneurial skills through real experience
Connect with others who are also exploring ideas
Prepare for opportunities like Demo Day or the Blaze Venture Challenge
For many students, Labs are where ideas can begin to feel possible.
