"On the cover: Gram-negative bacteria are enclosed by an asymmetric lipid bilayer that protects from environmental stresses, including antibiotics. In this issue, Palmer et al. report that the maintenance of lipid asymmetry contributes to outer membrane barrier function, antibiotic resistance, and virulence in the bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii. The image represents the finding that a suppressor mutant isolated from lungs of mice contained a native insertion hop that restored outer membrane barrier function, antibiotic resistance, and virulence.
