I was curious about the differences in the first day of school per school year so I went to https://registrar.uic.edu/uic-faculty-staff/calendars/degree-dates/ to find start and end dates.
I studied the first day of the fall semesters from 2018 through 2021.
There was a net positive change in ridership totaling 1674 at UIC-Halsted between 8-27-2018 and 8-23-2021. This was surprising as I would expect a pre-pandemic, pre-mixed-instruction total of rides (2018) to be more than thousands greater than the start date for the fall 2021 semester.
There was a net negative change in ridership of -4340 at UIC-Halsted between 8-26-2019 and 8-23-2021. This was unsurprising since fall 2019 was before the pandemic. Still, I was curious to know why the difference between these two years was that high compared to 2018 vs 2021.
There was a net net positive change in ridership totaling 3864 at UIC-Halsted between 8-24-2020 and 8-23-2021. This was also unsurprising since the 2020-2021 school year was more restrictive than this current school year.
I took a look at the rides for the first day of school between 2018 and 2019 to find this:
I then looked at the enrollment for the two years to find this:

The growth in class size may explain the increase in entries at UIC-Halsted. Sure, the change between 2018 and 2019 is drastic and may not be completely attributed to a growing class size, but with a growth of ~2,000 students, more people (students) must have been entering the UIC-Halsted stop.
