Women & Children First believes in the transformative power of literature. As intersectional trans-inclusive feminists, we believe books are tools for liberation. Since 1979, we have celebrated and amplified underrepresented voices. In order for feminism to remain relevant, it must be forever evolving. We are proud to partner with and support Chicago Books to Women in Prison (CBWP). CBWP is an all-volunteer, donation-funded 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and they send free paperback books to women and trans people in prisons nationwide. We hope you will consider stopping by and donating a book or two to this amazing organization!
I make home decor and use mixed materials and methods. I am an Afro-Latinx Queer Femme and I create work that reflects my love of natural materials and sustainable practices that have been practiced by BIPOC people for generations. I love looking at materials and giving them new life or re-imagining the ways in which markers of the diaspora can be incorporated into people’s homes. I get a lot of inspiration from my dreams to create work people can engage with their senses. I love using wood, gemstones and cotton fabric and upcycling or repurposing them.
