SOCCSKSARGEN is a region of the Philippines, located in central Mindanao, and is officially designated as Region XII. The name is an acronym that stands for the region’s four provinces and one of its cities: South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City. The region is more formally known by its older name Central Mindanao. Region 12 has a total of 45 municipalities and 1,192 barangays. It has 7 congressional seats, 4 gubernatorial and 4 vice-gubernatorial seats, 40 provincial board membership, 50 mayoral and vice-mayoral seats, 415 city/municipal councilorships and 1,192 seats for barangay captainship.
Central Mindanao Region (Region XII) was created on July 7, 1975 through Presidential Decree No. 742. The extent of regionalization was further seen in the establishment of Autonomous Regions in Central and Western Mindanao (Regions XII and IX) by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1618.

South Cotabato, officially the Province of South Cotabato and also known as Timog Kutabato.
South Cotabato is one of the most blessed and accessible areas in Mindanao, a province with an interesting blend of culture, history and tradition. It has hidden treasures, warm and friendly people, scenic places, amazing and enchanting natural and man made attractions.
South Cotabato is located in the southern part of the island of Mindanao. It is bounded by the province of Sultan Kudarat in the north and west, in the east and south by the city of General Santos and the province of Sarangani. It lies at a latitude of about 6°15′ north and about 125° longitude. Its main access to the sea is through the Sarangani Bay where the modern port of General Santos City is located.
