Contested heritage in Belgium

The legacy of King Leopold II.

A reflection on the concept of 'contentious heritage' in relationship to the urban and architectural legacy of Leopold II. Smaller groups worked on specific sites associated with the King. Immaterial aspects of heritage, such as memory and negative connotations, were addressed and students did extensive research on 'their' sites. In this case the old 'bourse' (stock market) in Brussels that is currently being converted to a Beer Museum by the Belgium office Robbrecht & Daem Architecten.
