His academic and professional journey highlights a steadfast commitment to education, research, and collaboration.
After earning his undergraduate degree in 2002 from UGM’s Faculty of Geography with honors (cum laude), Danang pursued further studies at the Institute de Géographie, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, France. He completed his Master’s in Environmental Dynamics and Risks (2005–2006), receiving recognition for his thesis. His doctoral studies at the same institution (2006–2009) were completed with distinction (summa cum laude).
Between 2010 and 2012, Danang contributed as an associate researcher at the Laboratoire de Géographie Physique, CNRS – Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. From 2012 to 2015, he served as an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, where he engaged in teaching, mentoring, and collaborative research.
A key milestone in his career was the SEDIMER project (2011–2013), an international collaboration on disaster and volcanic risk management involving researchers from multiple countries, funded by the AXA Foundation in Paris.
Danang has received recognition for his contributions to the field, including the Young Geomorphologist Jean-Tricart Award at the 2013 International Conference on Geomorphology in Paris. He currently holds an adjunct professorship at Kobe University's Graduate School of Maritime Sciences, Japan. He received a medal of the Tremplin – ASEAN award in October 2023 for his outstanding contribution on research collaboration between France- Indonesia awarded by the French Academy of Sciences.
