MATERIALS SCIENCE
(Code: MATS)
The study of the integration of various materials forms in systems, devices, and components that rely on their unique and specific properties. It involves their synthesis and processing in the form of nanoparticles, nanofibers, and nanolayered structures, to coatings and laminates, to bulk monolithic, single-/poly-crystalline, glassy, soft/hard solid, composite, and cellular structures. It also involves measurements of various properties and characterization of the structure across length scales, in addition to multi-scale modeling and computations for process-structure and structure-property correlations.

Resumen
This investigation was made with the purpose of finding a new use for Sargassum Fluitan. Hair needs nutrients such as biotin, zinc, folic acid, proteins, calcium, vitamins A, C and B, polysaccharides and omega 3 (Cabrera, 2019) Hair is made up of proteins, lipids. trace elements, water, pigments and keratin. Keratin is a long chain of amino acids and contains materials that are of utmost importance for hair, nails and skin. However, the keratin in human hair is hard instead of soft like that of the skin (Cantabria Labs, 2020). Sargassum Fluitans is a type of macro algae that lives floating on the sea, not needing a specific place to live. They reproduce by fragmentation and they are important to be able to feed the marine life. The purpose of the investigation was to determine if Sargassum Fluitans could be used in a hair mask as a substitute for avocados. The original recipe consisted of a persea americana(Avocado) without its skin, three spoons of olive oil, two spoons of honey, and one spoon of lemon extract. For the experiment the avocado was substitued by Sargassum Fluitans. In this investigation utilizing the hair porosity test, the results obtained during a month and a half pointed at the effectiveness of the modified recipe was not as efficient as the original recipe. This means that it is most likely that Sargassum Fluitans is not a suitable substitute for avocados on a hair mask recipe.
