Bring your class for a day of hands-on exploration and play-based programming at Island Lake!
Our programs are seasonally-based and curriculum-linked. The Fall, Winter and Spring Kindergarten Forest Play programs start inside the Akinomaagayegaamikoong building where we begin with an exploration of the centre, the taxadermied animals and Indigenous traditional ecological knowledge that pertains to the seasons. We then head outside to walk the trails at Island Lake and engage in seasonal nature play activites. We then return to the building where students get to try hands-on centres that further explore the seasonal themes and Indigenous games. This program aims to foster curiosity, a love and appreciation for the environment and our shared responsiblity to care for the natural world.
(Program duration: 2h)
A cookout lunch is an optional add-on for all classes, including kindergarten. We have clear procedures and policies in place to minimize risk. See "cookouts" on this page for additional information. If you would like to add a cookout to your program day, allow for an additional hour of program time.
