Peyton Lovett is an undergraduate student from Macon, Georgia, earning her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia. She is currently completing her second year at the school and her first year as a journalism major at Grady College.
As a student, Peyton has shown interest in working with the government, from a local to a federal level. She has held two internship positions during her time off in the summer months. She worked with a federal district court judge where she watched countless trials, arraignments, sentencings and hearings, and learned to take notes carefully and to ask questions afterward. She also worked closely with the judge’s law clerks on editing documents to be filed with the clerk of court.
This past summer, she spent time with attorney Ben Vaughn, who represents Monroe County and the City of Forsyth. Here she learned how to dissect county law and research ways the government can do different things. She learned how to write to clients and also began writing documents such as discoveries, petitions and motions to be filed with the court herself. And lastly, she learned how to speak with clients and ask all the right questions to gather the most information.
Peyton aspires to work with the government in the future to create a more positive relationship between politicians and the press.
