6.5: Systems of Equations in 3 Variables

STEPS for Solving Systems with 3 Variables

1. Cancel out a variable using 2 of the original equations. (Call this equation D)

2. Cancel out that SAME variable using the unused equation and one of the others. (Call this equation E)

3. Use the two NEW equations (D & E) to cancel out a DIFFERENT variable & solve.

4. Plug that in (answer from #3) to D or E & Solve.

5. Plug BOTH of those in (answers from 3 & 4) into one of the original equations & solve.

6. Write your ordered triple IN ORDER (x,y,z)
