We seek reliable and engaging individuals to join our team as Recreational Boating Surveyors. Surveyors will intercept recreational boaters in pairs and administer a standardized questionnaire using electronic tablets (provided). This part-time role involves up to one shift per week, scheduled according to a sampling plan, with each shift lasting 4 hours plus estimated travel time. Compensation is $15 per hour, including travel time.
Surveys will be conducted at selected boat launch sites in Citrus County, Florida, with an estimated travel time of up to 1 hour and 40 minutes one-way from Gainesville. Applicants must be able to travel independently to these off-campus locations.
We will maintain a weekly sampling schedule for one year and assign surveyors to specific sites, days, and time slots in advance to support planning. However, flexibility is essential, as assignments may vary weekly.
Available shift times (excluding travel time) are 8 AM–12 PM, 11 AM–3 PM, or 2 PM–6 PM, any day from Monday to Sunday.
Survey Administration: Work in pairs to intercept recreational boaters and conduct surveys using a predefined questionnaire.
Data Collection & Entry: Accurately record survey responses and assist with data entry off campus.
Participant Engagement: Interact with survey participants in a friendly, professional, and respectful manner.
Data Integrity: Ensure all collected data is handled confidentially and maintained accurately
Shift: Up to one day per week (flexible scheduling) with a 4-hour shift plus additional estimated travel time.
Compensation: $13 per hour (includes estimated travel time).
Contract Duration: Starting in May 2025 and continuing through April 2026. We will consider shorter appointments on a case-by-case basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong listening skills and the ability to follow instructions effectively.
Strong communication skills
Basic computer literacy.
Must be 18 years old or older.
UF student.
Driver’s license
Comfortable with independent travel to survey sites in Citrus County (up to 1 hour and 40 minutes commute from Gainesville).
Ability to work at least 6 hours per week in an outdoor environment. Shifts will be canceled if conditions are dangerous, but surveyors will be working in a range of temperatures and weather conditions.
Ability to work from 8 AM–12 PM, 11 AM–3 PM, or 2 PM–6 PM from Monday to Sunday.
