Upcoming Programs
Dr. Johannes Krause
Regional-scale drivers of seagrass carbon stocks, from Florida to the Greater Caribbean
What's the big deal with blue carbon? Well, seagrasses can store a lot of it, but it also varies quite a bit. Learn more about the Caribbean Carbon Accounting in Seagrass (CariCAS) project and how it is helping us get a handle on what influences carbon storage in seagrass in this webinar by Dr. Johannes Krause, Assistant Research Professor at Florida International University.
Emory Wellman
Examining the influence of wave energy on Big Bend oyster habitats
Oysters do a big job by absorbing and dissipating save impacts along our shorelines. But what impacts do those waves have on the oysters? Find out in this webinar by Emory Wellman, PhD Candidate in the UF/IFAS School of Fisheries, Forestry, and Geomatics Sciences.
Drs. Aaron Pilnick & Don Behringer
Sponge habitat restoration and enhancement along the Nature Coast
Sponges play an important role in the ecosystem by filtering water and creating structure for marine animals. How do scientists and managers restore sponge beds? Find out in this webinar by Postdoctoral Researcher Dr. Aaron Pilnick and Professor Don Behringer, both in the UF/IFAS School of Fisheries, Forestry, and Geomatics Sciences.
Dr. Ed Camp
Angler dynamics for saltwater recreational fisheries in Florida
Recreational fisheries are important economic drivers in Nature Coast communities. There is a wealth of knowledge about where and why recreational anglers fish where they do - this data can help coastal mangers a lot! Find out how in this webinar by Dr. Ed Camp, Associate Professor in the UF/IFAS School of Fisheries, Forestry, and Geomatics Sciences.
Joe Marchionno
Exploring nature-based solutions to address the loss of critical coastal bird habitats along the Nature Coast
Did you know that many coastal bird populations depend on oyster reefs for survival? Unfortunately, many oyster reefs are heavily degraded but nature-based approaches hold promise for restoration. Learn more in this webinar by Joe Marchionno, PhD Candidate in the UF Environmental Engineering Sciences & Center for Coastal Solutions.
Dr. Chris Anastasiou
2024 Springs Coast Seagrass Mapping Results
How do we know how much seagrass we have in the Nature Coast? The Southwest Florida Management District's mapping program! That's right, SWFWMD has been keeping an eye (in the sky) on our seagrasses since 1988. Dr. Chris Anastasiou, Chief Water Quality Scientist with SWFWMD, heads up the mapping program and will present about the most recent mapping results in this webinar.
