The Nature Coast hosts the largest concentration of breeding oystercatchers in Florida and wintering oystercatchers in their range! American Oystercatchers are dependent on coastal areas that support intertidal shellfish beds and the Nature Coast is critically important for breeding and wintering populations of oystercatchers. 2024 Springs Coast Seagrass Mapping Results

How do we know how much seagrass we have in the Nature Coast? The Southwest Florida Management District's mapping program! That's right, SWFWMD has been keeping an eye (in the sky) on our seagrasses since 1988. Dr. Chris Anastasiou, Chief Water Quality Scientist with SWFWMD, heads up the mapping program and will present about the most recent mapping results in this webinar.
