1. Describe available 4-H projects to the members. Before your meeting, review the Florida 4- H Clearinghouse and 4-H Mall for ideas and choices: http://florida4h.org/programs/Florida_4-H_Curriculum-Clearing-House.pdf and https://shop4-h.org/.
2. If your club does not have a name, select a 4-H Club name.
3. Develop and approve by-laws. Refer to Adopting 4-H Club By-Laws in the leader’s binder.
4. Elect club officers. Officers should include president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Other positions could include: report, historian, parliamentarian, and sergeant-at- arms.
5. Have parents/guardians enroll each member in 4-H Online. Refer to 4-H Online 2.0 Enrollment Instructions. Junior, Intermediate, and Senior level youth must pay the $20.00 4-H annual fee to be a Lake County 4-H member. Cloverbuds, youth ages 5-7 are not required to pay the $20.00 fee.
6. Develop a club calendar.
As a leader, your goal is to make club meetings into an enjoyable and educational experience. Club meetings should be youth focused with leaders guiding the meeting. Involve club officers and members in planning the agenda, educational program, and recreational activity. Club meetings are important as is provided youth members an opportunity to make new friends, learn social skills, and participate in community service. 4-H meetings do not always have to be at the same meeting space. On occasion your clubs can have “club field trips.” For more information go to: 4H344/4H344: Running a Smooth 4-H Business Meeting (ufl.edu) and 4H04900.pdf (ufl.edu)
