In reflecting upon what distance education means to me, it is apparent that distance education is a barrier-breaker. It provides opportunity to learn and advance in ways that remove the barrier of distance. It takes advantage of technology to bring together learners and educators in a uniquely structured learning environment. For many, like myself, distance education is the only avenue that provides the opportunity for higher education.
In this course, I learned about the history and scope of distance education. The extent of which was an eye-opener. I appreciated learning about MOOCs and the opportunity to participate in them. Additionally, the course seemed to tie together information that I have learned in other EME courses.
The most significant skill that I gained in this course was the creation of an online module in Canvas. I plan to continue to build upon the module that I created for use with my GED math students. Professionally, the ability to create within Canvas will open doors to what I can offer in my education business. It will increase my earning potential and client base. And I am exploring how to incorporate using Canvas to expand my business by creating professional training solutions/videos.
Truly, this course has been a highlight in my education at UF.
