My career path has been exciting and full of unique opportunities to teach and train that have brought me to where I am today.
It all started when I began teaching newly hired tellers and facilitating seminars in the banking industry. From there, I branched out into a mélange of opportunities providing education to students of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. I have had the pleasure of teaching in a vocational school, a drug rehab, and tutoring those in training to become professional athletes at a boarding school for international students. And when my daughter was four years old, I founded a preschool for 2-5 year olds, which I am happy to report is still in operation decades later.
Approximately ten years ago, I established a tutoring and education-related business. As the years pass by, my career has evolved, as have my students. I am in my dream job helping adults earn their high school diploma, despite the odds against them. Whether in drug rehab, coming out of the prison system, or just working to make a living – I enjoy showing each student that they can learn and they can set and reach goals. I enjoy using unorthodox methods to help each one to learn in an environment that best suits their circumstances.
My career goal for the next 5 - 10 years is to continue working with adults who want to earn a high school diploma. I would like to turn my business into a non-profit organization. I envision partnering with school systems to help teenagers who want to drop out of high school and do not want to attend the cookie-cutter options currently available. On the horizon, I would like to operate a “mobile classroom” in order to take education to the student. Ultimately, I want to open a testing and tutoring center where other educators can tutor their students, and where students can take proctored standardized tests like the GED, SAT, etc.
I hope to partner with grant writers and other businesses and philanthropists to bring in much needed funds for those who need my services but do not have the financial resources. Additionally, staying technologically up-to-date is imperative for my career and educational goals. Being a student in the Education Science program at the University of Florida will enhance my knowledge and equip me to keep my business relevant and technologically current.
For the remaining years that I have left to teach, I want to make them the very best for each and every student.
