Mammal Collection - UENF

Bat specimens preserved in alcohol

The Mammal collection from the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense hosts ~400 specimens, most of them being bats (Chiroptera). The specimens represent testimonies from studies carried out by our research group, in addition to field expeditions in the region, encompassing five municipalities of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo.

The main goal of this collection is to expand the representativeness of mammalian species (mainly Chiroptera) from regions of the north of Rio de Janeiro in scientific collections. Specimens are preserved in liquid and dry way, focusing mainly on the region's conservation units, but also producing an overview of the diversity of species and their distribution, filling a important knowledge gap about the biodiversity of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
