(Doctor in Telecommunication Engineering by the Technical University of Madrid, and M.Sc. in Philosophy by the National University for Distance Education, UNED) he is currently a Professor at the Madrid Open University, Spain, and at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, Germany. Between 1997 and 2009, he was an associate professor at the University Alfonso X el Sabio. As a researcher, he also worked at the Technical University of Madrid (1997-2003) and the Technical University of Vienna (1996). He has been a Visiting and Invited Professor at several universities in Europe and Latin America. He is a board member of the International Association for the Study of Information (IS4SI), currently serving as its president, coordinator of the BITrum-Research Group, and a member of the Institute for a Global Sustainable Information Society (GSIS, Austria) and the International Centre for Information Ethics (ICIE). He belongs to the editorial boards of the Journals TripleC, International Review of Information Ethics (IRIE), Systema, and glossariumBITri. His research focuses on the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary study of information communication, perception, systems and complexity.

Prof. Dr. Silke Järvenpää is a professor at Hochschule München (Munich University of Applied Sciences) in the Department of General and Interdisciplinary Studies, where she teaches courses in English language, cultural studies, and intercultural communication. Her academic work bridges linguistics, culture, and social theory, focusing on how language and media shape perceptions of identity, power, and globalization. Järvenpää’s research explores topics such as the cultural dimensions of surveillance, the discourse of populism, and the phenomenon of “alternative facts” and fake news in contemporary digital societies. She has published several essays and book chapters, including “Alternative Facts and Fake News: Cultural Studies’ Illegitimate Brainchildren” and “Die Kultur der Überwachung”, which examine the intersections of truth, narrative, and cultural legitimacy. Beyond her research, she contributes to interdisciplinary teaching initiatives such as Understanding Complexity: The Study of Systems, reflecting her interest in systemic thinking and transdisciplinary education. Through her scholarship and teaching, Prof. Dr. Silke Järvenpää engages critically with the cultural implications of media and technology, emphasizing the role of discourse in shaping contemporary public life.
