NuDot

R&D Testbed

NuDot is a ton-scale liquid scintillator sphere, with extremely precise (in terms of timing) photomultiplier tubes surrounding it. The aim is to demonstrate that we can separate Cherenkov radiation from the Scintillation radiation through timing. We’ve done this on a table top experiment and now need to demonstrate it at the 1 ton scale. The Cherenkov radiation gives directional information, which would enable us to reject solar neutrino events (single Cherenkov cone versus back-to-back Cherenkov cones in the case of ).
