About Me
My name is Grace, and I am an honors student pursuing a BA in Political Science, Public Policy, and English. I have had a lifelong passion for equity and equality of opportunity that first prompted me to lead my own annual clothing drive for those experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia when I was 7 years old, and continued to push me towards a life of advocacy and policy work, through which I found the University of Delaware. After receiving my acceptance to UD, I applied to the Community Engagement Scholars Program, knowing that if I were to be accepted, UD is where I would choose to attend. UD had so much to offer me, between the honors college, the Biden School of Public Policy, the 4+1 MPA program, and the proximity both to Wilmington and Philadelphia, and the Community Engagement Initiative was what I knew I needed to center everything I studied and participated in around a community service mindset. I hoped that, in learning about politics, government, policy, patterns of history, and effective communication, Community Engagement would give me the opportunity to reframe my learning around what can be done to address inequities, and what I may be able to do to help. My involvement in this program has pushed me above and beyond my expectations, by not only allowing me to focus my studies on community and public service, but also by introducing me to peers in different fields of study with the same overall goal of providing service to others.
