I have been in the field of teaching English as a second language for over five years. I mainly work with adult learners at the level of higher-education and older. I worked briefly with younger learners as well. Over the years, I have embraced and modified my teaching method and approach to the whole process in many ways. This development was motivated by experience I acquired through the years I spent in the business and the educational development events I usually participate in such as forums, training courses and even a big part of my master's degree.
If there was one thing I would pick to highlight about what I have learnt through my years as an educator, it would be the compelling feeling that I am now liberated from committing to a single point of view or approach of teaching. As one of my dearest teachers puts it: we are in a post-methods era. The teacher in the class is a mediator overlooking the whole process, when he/she has good command of the material, a good background in teaching, the required soft skills, the necessary communication with and understanding of the students, their needs and patterns of development, in this case this educator is the only one in control of what to use of different methods and materials, when and how to use them for the greater good of his/her students.
