This class was mostly spent preparing for and taking certification exams. During this class, I earned 7 certifications, which will hopefully prove my digital skills to other people.
This was my first certification, and honestly, the easiest. I had previous experience using Google Slides and PowerPoint for class projects. At first, I was a little bit intimidated by the idea of doing a certification. I had thought that a certification required a deep understanding of the topic. Anybody can take a test and pass but I didn’t know how the certification was going to be. For this certification, I took my time and did everything that was required of me in GMetrix. I remember doing multiple practice tests and concept reviews in preparation (Imagine stressing for a certification) After the test I got a really good score, I realized that these certifications wouldn’t be as hard as I thought they would be. Although I knew this was an easy certification, it was a sign to me that I could do these certifications easily.
This next certification bore no resemblance to my previous certification. I began watching most of the videos at 2 times speed to make my journey through the domains faster. Like PowerPoint, I had a lot of experience with Word so I breezed through the domains for this as well. This was also one of the easiest certifications I took. I received a passing score on this and moved on with life.
At first, I did not have much experience with Excel so I knew that this certification would be a little more challenging than the previous ones. Excel is an extremely powerful tool used for data analysis and organization. However, I was not interested in the organization part of Excel but more of the mathematical side of it. Before I was told to certify in Excel I was getting my feet wet in Python and other programming languages. Programming, in general, is a fascinating field with many applications in real life. While learning about Excel I became particularly interested in Neural Networks and other machine learning models. What was surprising to me was how a machine with multiple layers of just weights and biases (and other miscellaneous layers) could learn new things. I was most fascinated by how models could turn real-world objects and ideas into numbers and math that could be manipulated and solved. I tried learning about machine learning and used websites like Kaggle and Coursera. Anyway, my Excel certification got me interested in other things besides Microsoft products.
Since I was interested in Excel, I thought it would be best to continue down the pathway. However there really wasn't much more to learn for this certification. This certification was merely an addition to the knowledge learned from the Excel certification. Also, I got my highest certification score on this, 972.
After my Excel Expert certification, I became interested in how data collection works. So, I began my journey through Access. To me, the most interesting about databases was the design of tables. I had never used Access before so I really had to pay attention to the coursework.
IC3 1 was the easiest certification for me to complete. It was just a 45 question digital literacy test. For me, this was so easy because I already had some digital safety and literacy classes in class. It's really important to be safe online and these certifications prove I can effectively use the internet and digital items to do tasks.
This certification was similar to IC3 1 with a few additions. I hope to complete IC3 3 during this summer. Hopefully, these certifications add value to any internships and career opportunities I might have.
