Seventh College Resident Assistants (RAs) host programs and activities designed to enhance residents' educational experiences, promote UC San Diego's Principles of Community, and engage all residents in dialogue around the College’s theme of “a changing planet."
Programming and Event Planning
RAs develop and host social and educational programs via our Seventh College Residential Experience (more info below on the Residential Experience).
RAs host three community builders (social programs) a quarter
Community Builders are programs designed for the RA's respective community
RAs host one Area Wide Event, a program designed for the entirety of the Seventh residential community, with two peers once during the academic year.
Duty
RAs serve in an on-call duty rotation. The duty shift structure is the following:
6 PM - 11 PM, Monday - Friday
9 AM - 11 PM, Saturday - Sunday
Currently, weekend shifts are comprised of three smaller shifts:
9 AM - 2 PM
2 PM - 7 PM
7 PM - 11 PM.
Please note that duty times may be subject to change based on the needs of the community in coming years.
RAs Support the Game Room and Front Desk during Duty Shifts
Community Meetings
RAs will host two Community Meetings during the year.
One at the beginning of the year to discuss living in Seventh College, college and campus resources, and community standards. This will also be an opportunity for residents to meet one another.
One at the end of the year to discuss move-out expectations and address any resident questions.
Living Space Agreements (LSAs)
At the beginning of the academic year, RAs will conduct Living Space Agreements with all the apartments they are assigned to in order to discuss living expectations among everyone.
1:1s
RAs will have regular meetings with their direct supervisor to discuss resident and community updates and needs, address any concerns and/or questions, and discuss ways in which staff can continue to support the wellness and growth of the Seventh RA.
Staff Meeting
RAs will attend weekly staff meetings on Tuesdays from 5 PM - 7:30 PM.
Staff Meetings are required unless there is an Academic Conflict that has been communicated to your Supervisor for an approved exception.
RA Mentor/Mentee Groups
All new RAs are organized into small groups, each led by returning RAs. These groups are designed to provide guidance and support throughout the year, helping new RAs navigate training, transition into the RA role, and adjust to their responsibilities.
Move-In and Move-Out
RAs will have responsibilities associated with Move-In during September, Fall Closing in December, and Move-Out in June.
Sun God
Given Seventh College's proximity to the Sun God Festival, RAs are expected to assist with responsibilities affiliated with Sun God duty or programming.
According to the Job Card , the RA contract dates are
August 23, 2025 - June 17, 2026.
We anticipate doing 3 weeks of training this year and may ask RAs to return to campus as early as August 23.

The 2024-2025 Residential Experience was developed based on the needs of our Seventh Community, the needs of college students, UCSD Principles of Community, UCSD departmental/office initiatives, observations, assessments, and RA Feedback from the 21-22, 22-23, and 23-24 academic years.
Our Residential Experience is a comprehensive blueprint for what we hope students will gain from living on campus at Seventh College. Our approach combines a “traditional programming model” with a “curricular model.” A curricular approach is an intentional way of promoting learning in college and university residence life and educational programs.
Residents will expand, develop, and utilize strategies to navigate the challenges of college, cope with transition, and change. Residents will practice wellness-enhancing behaviors to support a thriving community.
Our vision is to foster an inclusive, healthy, and student-centered residential environment composed of change makers who actively create a vibrant community for our Changing Planet.
Our Seventh RA team uses the following strategies to facilitate learning via the Residential Experience:
Area Wide Events (AWEs)
Community Builders (CBs)
Finals Passive Programs
Resident Group Communication
Resident Connections
Resident Welcome
Bulletin Boards
Door Decorations
RA Welcome Letter
Community Meeting
Resident Agreements: Living Space Agreements and Roommate Agreements
There are three main themes for our Residential Experience: Community, Wellbeing, and Social Responsibility. Each theme has sub-themes. These themes and sub-themes are used to inform the Area-Wide Events that occur throughout the academic year and inform the strategies used to enact the Residential Experience.
A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. The following sub-themes are in alignment with the larger theme of community:
Affinity
Belonging
Healthy Relationships
Leadership
The concepts of health and well-being are holistic in nature and involve all aspects of the individual. Well-being encompasses the physical, emotional/mental, social, spiritual, intellectual, financial, and occupational dimensions of a person. All of these dimensions are interconnected. Taking care of one particular dimension (or not) impacts a person's overall health and well-being. The dimensions of well-being not captured in the sub-themes below, environment and social, are captured by the Social Responsibility and Community themes. The remaining seven dimensions have been condensed into the following sub-themes and are in alignment with the larger theme of well-being:
Financial and Occupational
Emotional/Mental and Spiritual
Physical
Intellectual
The Social Responsibility theme recognizes our increasingly diverse and interdependent world and is deeply rooted in fostering a shared commitment to social justice. Social responsibility is the purposeful, collaborative pursuit of safe, equitable, and thriving communities through one’s self-knowledge, leadership, and social justice advocacy. The following sub-themes are in alignment with the larger theme of Social Responsibility:
Understanding Self and Identity
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Social Justice Advocacy
A Changing Planet
Seventh College’s theme of “A Changing Planet” is designed to prepare students to confront a broad range of pressing global issues including the climate crisis, mass migration, and rapid cultural and technological change.
Social Responsibility goes beyond one’s self and thus Seventh College’s theme of a Changing Planet is an example of Social Responsibility. Initiatives and programs under this sub-theme are designed to educate residents on the impact climate change, mass migration, social and societal structure change, etc. have on the world around us and what residents can do to have an impact/influence on these changes. As a result, these initiatives and programs are conducted in pursuit of climate justice.
