Frequently Asked Questions

• Do I need to submit a separate appliction for each residential area if I want to be considered by all the residential areas?

  • • • Yes. Please ensure you complete each application for the different residential areas you are interested in applying to. 

• Can I update/edit my submitted application?  

  • • • No, changes to an application cannot be made after it has been submitted. However, if the application window is still open, you can resubmit your application. We will only review your most recent application.  

• The RA/HA application deadline has passed, can I still apply?  

  • • • No, we will not be accepting any applications past the deadline. If your application is received after January 5, 2026 at 11:59PM (Pacific Time) it will be ineligible for candidacy in this process.

• Is an interview offer extended to all applicants?  

  • • • No, applications are reviewed based on academic standing, student conduct history, and responses to application questions. Each area will extend interview offers to selected candidates. This means that you may receive a single interview offer, multiple interview offers, or no interview offers.

• I had my first round interview, when will I hear back from the committee? 

  • • • Please refer to each area's page regarding their timelines and processes. Keep an eye on the email you used in your application for updates regarding the process.   

• I missed deadline to sign up for interviews, may I still sign up? 

  • • • Unfortunately, you will not be able to sign up for an interview past the deadline. 

• I did not move further along in the RA/HA selection process can my application be re-evaluated? 

  • • • Given the number of applicants, we are not able to re-evaluate any applications. All decisions regarding applicants' candidacy are final.

•  I did not move further along in the RA/HA selection process can I get feedback on my application? 

  • • • Given the number of applicants, we are not able to give individual feedback for each candidate. What we can tell you is that the decision was based on a variety of factors and a rubric used to evaluate each submitted application. 

• I did not move further along in the RA/HA selection process; is there other leadership/employment opportunities available?  

  • • • There are numerous opportunities to be involved with UC San Diego in areas other than residence life. We also encourage you to consider other leadership opportunities available at your home College or University-wide. Examples include your College Hall Council, your College Student Council, your College Resident Council, your college's orientation, ICRA, or NRHH. If you wish to re-apply for the RA/HA position in the future, the skills and knowledge you would gain from your involvement could only be to your benefit.             • Apply to be a Residence Life Summer RA (Resident Assistant) or Residence Life Summer OA (Office Assistant). Look out for this opportunity on Handshake during the Spring Quarter. 

• I'm still waiting to hear back about the position, should I still apply for On-Campus Housing through HDH?  

  • • • Yes! You should apply for on-campus housing if you plan to live on campus regardless of the outcome of the RA/HA Position. If you accept and offer to be an RA, any fees related to next year's housing will be refunded or applied to other outstanding fees on your student account.

• Will the RA/HA position impact my Financial Aid? 

  • • • Please see the information in the Presentation from Financial Aid below. We encourage you to meet with a Financial Aid representative to discuss your specific situation. 

• I do not live on campus this year, can I still apply?

  • • • Yes! We encourage you to apply regardless of commuter status. 

• I am an international student, can I apply?

  • • • This depends on what type of visa you have. Please contact the college(s) that you are interested in applying to and let them know what type of visa you have, they will get back to you regarding your eligibility.
