Upper Division Housing, also known as UDH and formerly The Village, consists of four residential areas: Pangea, Pepper Canyon East and Matthews Apartments, Pepper Canyon West, and The Rita. Home to 4,000 residents, our area is unique in that it serves students from all eight UCSD colleges. As a result of living in UDH, students will foster a sense of belonging that supports their growth as supportive and responsible community members. With a focus on the experiences of both new and continuing Transfer and Upper-Division students, residents will also develop a stronger sense of self and enhance their ability to collaborate with peers across UCSD’s unique eight-college system.
Pangea, Pepper Canyon East (PCE), Pepper Canyon West (PCW) and The Rita are housing facilities that do not have a College-affiliated Residence Life Staff. Residents from every College reside in our communities. The Residence Life Staff here is part of Housing, Dining, Hospitality/Residential, Retail, and Supply Chain Services at UCSD. Residents have the option of signing a 9-month contract at Pangea, PCE, and The Rita or a 12-month contract at PCW.
RAs promote student development and growth among residents. This is accomplished through intentional conversations, building individual relationships with residents and supporting them in their goals. Through programming and serving on a duty rotation, RAs engage residents in developing relationships and building a safe and welcoming community.
Our communities primarily house incoming and returning transfer students as well as continuing upper division students.

This past year, we kicked off our RA Training with an overnight retreat in Idyllwild. UDH RAs competed in their own UnOlympics with each other and set the tone for a collaborative year ahead. Check out some photos below!
