Day 12: (Friday) 7/19/24
Day 12 was spent in an Envision Lab session with our professor Joe, where we worked on microcontrollers. We learned about how to integrate the MAX MSP program into Arduino, allowing us to modify our sounds physically.
Day 13: (Saturday) 7/20/24
Our field trip to the San Diego Zoo was fantastic! Although some of our friends went back for family weekend, most of our cluster stayed. We saw so many animals: elephants, giraffes, tigers, and even flamingos! We had a wonderful time at the zoo, and these memories together are truly cherished!
Day 14: (Sunday) 7/21/24
Sunday was a sweet night recovering from all the walking we did yesterday. We rested and did laundry to prepare for the UCSD COSMOS traditional event, Casino Night! We ‘gambled’ and enjoyed delicious mocktails made by the RAs. We also met up with friends who returned from family weekend and took photos at Europe Hall. Someone from our cluster won a Polaroid camera with a raffle ticket! I can't believe we’ve already made it halfway through the month!
Day 15: (Monday) 7/22/24
Today, we had a walking-tour around the area following the soundtrack instructions on the app 59 Acres. Half of the group got lost, but we caught up and completed the tour together as a cluster, ending at Geisel Library. After lunch, we returned and watched a documentary about Alvin Lucier in the recital hall. The documentary was very interesting; we learned a lot about how different voices are captured by technologies and how enjoyable the process of creating sound can be.
Day 16: (Tuesday) 7/23/24
On Day 16, we started by wrapping up the Ethics Project in the first half of the class. Cluster 9 managed to finish our video for the project and upload it to the cluster folder. After lunch, we began brainstorming for the final project and formed groups of 3 and 4. With our 5 TAs helping out, Cluster 9 started their progress towards the final project, beginning with outlining the project description. We're excited to see what comes out at the end of week 4!
Day 17: (Wednesday) 7/24/24
Day 17 was the first full day Cluster 9 had to work on their final projects. We had a bunch of questions for the TAs. We added and changed details and started working on a basic blueprint of what we want to do. Although we might sometimes need to redirect our plan due to the materials, we still came up with new plans that keep our process moving forward.
Day 18: (Thursday) 7/25/24
For the entire class period, Cluster 9 worked on their final project as a group. We discussed our ideas, worked on the slide deck, and began hearing some progress with sounds from Max MSP. Today, the TAs brought us the materials we needed, and we started transitioning our project from just programming on the computer to real life.
