The Shu Chien - Gene Lay Department of Bioengineering at UC San Diego is gathering to commemorate 60 years of pioneering research, education, and impact on human health. This celebration underscores the department’s longstanding mission—“Bioengineering the future of humanity”—and highlights a decades-spanning record of innovation, from early tissue‑engineered constructs to today’s AI‑driven therapeutic design.
This in‑person event gathers Bioengineering alumni, faculty, staff, and the broader UC community to celebrate our 60th anniversary on May 22, 2026. Please RSVP HERE for the 60th celebration.

The UC San Diego Bioengineering Day (BE Day) is the department's largest annual spring event, celebrating student innovation, research, and industry connections. This student run event brings together 400+ students, industry professionals, and faculty for a full day of innovation, networking, and celebration of Bioengineering. Each year, seniors, BS/MS, and graduate students within the Bioengineering program present their year-long capstone projects at BE day.
