Transfer Hacks is open to all UC San Diego undergraduate students from any major or background. While the theme focuses on improving the transfer student experience, all students are welcome to participate.
Transfer Hacks gives students the opportunity to gain project experience, collaborate with others, apply skills learned in class, and build something meaningful. Participants can also receive feedback on their ideas, network with students and industry professionals, and win prizes.
The hackathon runs for one week, from when the prompt is released to the submission deadline. During this time, participants can decide how much time they want to dedicate to their project. Some students may spend several hours developing their ideas, while others may choose to spend more time refining their work. The event is designed to be flexible so students can participate in a way that fits their schedules and other commitments.
Participants will need to submit a short description of their project, a video presentation explaining their idea and showing what they created, and a link to their project if applicable. More detailed submission instructions will be provided when the prompt is released.
Projects can take many forms depending on your interests and skills. Submissions could include apps, websites, research ideas, design prototypes, or other creative solutions. Projects do not need to be fully finished products, but they should clearly communicate your idea and approach.
Projects should primarily be worked on during the hackathon period, but students may build upon skills or general ideas they already have.
The showcase is a closing event where selected projects may be highlighted and winners will be announced. Participants will have the chance to see what others created, hear feedback from judges, and connect with other students. Food and light refreshments will be provided.
Not all teams may be asked to formally present depending on the number of submissions. Some projects may be highlighted as finalists, but all participants are welcome to attend and celebrate the event.
All participants are encouraged to attend the showcase to see the projects, support other participants, and celebrate the work completed during the hackathon. However, attendance is not required to participate or be considered for judging.
