ABOUT
Latinx Heritage Month!
It started off in 1968 in the US as a week long celebration but was enacted into law in 1988 as a month long celebration.
It’s a time to appreciate the contributions that Hispanic and Latinx individuals have made in effort to establish the United States by honoring the artist, activities, athletes and other revolutionaries.
Atop of this many Latine people take the time to reconnect with their roots during the month whether it's partaking in cultural practices or community events. It is also an important time to educate yourself and others around you, redefining the definition of what it means to be Latinx and the stereotypes of what “Latinx” looks like.
Among this afro-latine representation and indigenous representation, two communities that are often overlooked, is beginning to make appearances in more academic discussions which is an important effort in decolonizing the Latinx community.
San Diego specifically: supporting local businesses, if they have capacity to do so there is a rich community located all over San diego.
