We are Team 29! Our names are Saara Kriplani, Sally Ha, Honieh Hemati, and Safa Saeed, and we are all Bioengineering: Bioinformatics majors. Our goal is to bridge the gap in women's health research, so our project focuses on investigating sex differences in diabetes. We were mentored by Dr. Benjamin Smarr and collaborated with Dexcom to acquire CGM data for our project.
Hello, I'm Honieh! During my time in undergrad, I've had the privilege to work in the Muotri and Subramaniam labs, working with human cortical brain organoids in both wet and dry lab environments. My experiences have expanded my interests in neuroscience, cognitive science, and data science and I plan to pursue a graduate degree in one of those areas in the future.
Hi! My name is Sally. I'm from San Jose, California and am passionate about leveraging biology, engineering, and computer science to advance healthcare solutions in our society. Previously, I've held intern positions at UCLA, Blue Marble Space Institute of Science, and Johnson & Johnson MedTech, and will be working in industry post-grad.
Hi, I'm Safa! I'm originally from Long Beach, CA. I have been working in the Alexandrov Lab studying mutational signatures of cancer and in the Smarr Lab studying sex differences in physiological data for the past few years. I'm very excited to be pursuing my PhD in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at UCSD in Fall 2025, where I hope to use my bioinformatics knowledge to contribute to sex-specific cancer research.
Hi! My name is Saara and I’m originally from the Bay Area. I’m very passionate about women’s health research, and I’ve been working with Dr. Smarr for the past three years. I'm pursuing a PhD in Data Science at UCSD, starting this fall! I hope to contribute to research that bridges the gap in women’s healthcare. Some of my hobbies include dancing, reading, arts/crafts, and growing my succulent collection!
