For the first several weeks, we will be following the information in this primer on Learning Theories: Shayan Doroudi - Learning Theories Primer.
You are absolutely welcome to read from other sources and add to your presentations with things you’ve learned elsewhere! Include sources so we can follow along :)
Each week, you’ll read a section from the learning theories primer. One group will present on that week’s topic.
5-7 minutes of explaining the topic (slides made based on the reading)
5-7 minutes of discussion starting with some suggestions you come up with for the different course roles: Office Hours, Ed Q&A, Lab/Discussion, and Extra Help. Also make sure to mention if and how any of this changes with students’ use of LLMs.
Come up with at least 1 practice question that should aim to incorporate the topic for that week
Optional: reflect on experiences you had with students that week that relate to the topic.
Then, the remaining time we have will be discussing and workshopping the questions that the non-presenting groups came up with that week. Hopefully we can co-create some interesting, learning-sciences informed questions that we can use for reviews and practice for students!
With your group, sign up for presenting on least one week this quarter. The first presentation will be from a group with at least one experienced teaching staff member.
See the Sample Presentations tab for examples.
