HIGL144GS: The Singapore Model of Leadership, a Global Seminar course I’ll be teaching in Singapore in Summer 2026
Interdisciplinary by nature, the course explores leadership as a culturally constructed and historically grounded phenomenon, using Singapore as a case study to explore themes of governance, identity, and multiculturalism in a postcolonial context.
The course challenges students to consider how leadership and power operate within multiethnic societies—specifically how the Singaporean state institutionalizes race, manages diversity, and constructs national identity through a framework of 'meritocracy' and global capitalism.
I hope it might align well with Ethnic Studies’ focus on colonial legacies, race and power, and transnational formations, while also encouraging critical engagement with how race and governance intersect beyond the U.S.

The issue will consider how students shape and are shaped by ongoing struggles over ethnic studies and public education more broadly.

Female-identifying high school and college-age adolescents are invited to participate in a study to promote body positivity and healthy self-worth! If interested, participants will attend 4 one-hour sessions.
More about the Priorities study:
The purpose of this study is to:
Help participants identify and nurture alternative sources of self-worth (such as intellectual, athletic, creative, or social achievements) rather than basing self-worth on body size, weight, or appearance.
Compare the effectiveness of the Priorities intervention with The Body Project (a very successful program in reducing body image concerns and preventing eating disorders).
Develop a successful Priorities program that could be implemented in schools and other educational settings.
As part of participation, you will complete a screening questionnaire, participate in four sessions, complete surveys, and an optional follow-up.

Support Student Advocacy for Survivors at California Colleges!

Survivors + Allies is a student-led organization based at UCLA that advocates for and with survivors of sexual violence and sexual harassment. We’re launching a new anonymous research study to understand how California colleges and universities can better support student healing and wellbeing.
Please take the anonymous survey whether or not you identify as a survivor to help us advocate for improved education and resources! The study is part of an IRB-approved UCLA research project (IRB-24-6117), and student input will help us push for change across the UC and CSU systems, and with California state policymakers. Our 2021 study was cited by the California assembly in 11 bills that were passed into law last year!

Volunteers should fill out a short questionnaire. If eligible, participation is voluntarily in a focus group and optional one-on-one interview. This research has the potential to identify strategies and inform policies to better support students from refugee/asylee-seeker backgrounds at UCSD and other higher education institutions. The Biden Administration policy provides eligible spouses and step children of a U.S citizen who came into the country without authorization by an immigration officer a pathway to lawful permanent residency without having to leave the country. AGES Coalition strives to uplift the narratives of marginalized communities and empower students by giving them critical tools to combat racism, ensuring that an anti-racist educational curriculum and mindset are the standard for all students pursuing higher education. If students are admitted for TMI eligible graduate programs and indicate they are Native American, Native Hawaiian, and/or Native Alaskan then I will check to see if they have documents recognizing their affiliation to a federally recognized tribe in Slate. If students meet our eligibility requirements, I will contact the corresponding graduate coordinator and ask them to nominate the student in Slate. If a potential TMI recipient did not submit documents in their program application, I will contact the student and ask them to email the document to their graduate coordinator. If you receive the document please upload it into Slate, nominate your student for the TMI, and please email me to check their eligibility. I will then check their eligibility and will award the TMI Letter. If you have a student you would like me to check for TMI eligibility you may email me directly.
