Building on top of the requirements of the mini sculpture, the aim of the full sculpture was for full autonomy. While the sculpture was meant to be fully autonomous, we also wanted to create a user input to add an interactive element. Furthermore, the full sculpture was meant to be more stable; this includes no marbles falling off the tracks and not using any tape to hold the structure together.
Underneath the sorting baskets, we added a tray to catch the marble and lead it onto another track as it passes through the sorting mechanism. In order to do this, we needed to add more space underneath what we already had. We made the track loop back to the beginning into a newly added elevator. The elevator will run continuously while the marble runs the course, and when the marble reaches the end of the track, the elevator will take it back to the beginning. The elevator serves the additional purpose of spacing out the marbles—which solves the issue of the marbles going faster than the mechanism can react. The User Input of the full sculpture is the use of the touch sensors. The user can press the "button" to move the paddle of the "Death Star" mechanism, and they can manually sort the marbles if they choose.
The paddle sorts the marbles to fall in different buckets, which then are led onto a winding track.
The revolving door feeds the marbles into the elevator sequntially.
The elevator carries the marbles back to the top to start the cycle again.
